If you're looking for a budget base with a great location, check into the Aloe Hotel. It's just a 15-minute stroll into the heart of Faliraki, where you'll find shops, restaurants and the famous 'Bar Street'. And if you walk a little further, you'll hit the beach – a long sandy stretch with plenty of watersports and tavernas.

As for the property itself, the Aloe Hotel is a simple whitewashed complex set on a leafy hillside. Factor in distant mountains and you've got some pretty impressive views. The best place to soak it up is by the kidney-shaped pool. It's bordered by a terrace accessorised with sunbeds and thatched parasols. There's a strip of lawn on the side too, with huge palms for shade.

Step inside the Aloe Hotel and you'll find a laid-back lounge and bar where you can relax with a drink. And as it's a small, family-run hotel, the staff will always greet you like an old friend. On the accommodation front, rooms are fairly compact but the whitewashed walls, tiled floors and pale wood furnishings give them a light and airy feel. Plus, they all come with their own private balcony.
