Akroyiali Villa

in Nikiana , Lefkas

  • Close to the beach
  • Plenty of privacy
  • Contemporary interior
This well-dressed villa is close to the beach and perfectly placed for exploring Lefkas.
You can leave the world at the gate when you stay at the Akroyiali Villa. The whole place is framed by mature gardens and sheltered by high walls, so can look forward to plenty in the way of privacy.

At first glance, the villa itself is a pretty peach and cream building designed with plenty of curves. There are arches over the doorways, and the balconies are virtually bowl shaped – giving you more in the way of space. Step inside and things go down the contemporary route. You’ll find marble floors, feature fireplaces and plump sofas.

Outside, this place has its own pool and sunbeds. And, in the far corner of the grounds, you’ll find an al fresco eating area, which is shaded by a parasol. Cooking here is easy – there’s a barbecue close to the pool. Alternatively, the kitchen is well equipped with things like a microwave and dishwasher. Elsewhere, there’s a TV, DVD player and CD player, so you’re sorted in terms of home comforts.

When it comes to exploring, this villa is in a great setting. It’s less than a five-minute walk from the tavernas of Nikiana village, and the nearest beach is virtually on your doorstep. Meanwhile, the yachting hotspot of Nidri is only a ten-minute drive away.

Your guide to Nikiana, Lefkas

"Unblemished countryside, a low-key beach and a handful of tavernas - if it’s the simple life you hanker for, Nikiana is just the place."

The sleepy fishing village of Nikiana sprawls out lazily along the east coast of Lefkas. Pastel-washed houses skirt the seafront and wend their way round to the harbour where a smattering of bars and tavernas takes over. And this is about as lively as Nikiana gets. Spend the evenings sampling the menus of freshly-netted fish, and move on to a low-key bar for al fresco drinks. Just opposite the quay you’ll find the village’s best – and biggest – beach. It’s a pale brushstroke of fine shingle and pebbles backed by a row of trees. And with views across the twinkling Ionian to the hazy mountains of the mainland, it makes for an idyllic spot. Elsewhere there’s some great walking to be had. Above the village lie the foothills of Skaros mountain where well-worn trails crosshatch their way through slopes draped in olive and cypress trees. Nikiani is well connected for exploring other parts of Lefkas, too. With a coastal road reaching up to Lefkas Town nine kilometres north, and down to Nidri seven kilometres south, it’s a good central base for getting out and about. Plus, there’s a regular bus service running to both these places.
