"With a gorgeous beach, jaw-dropping views and a refreshing Sea Breeze, Tingaki is a very pleasant place to re-charge your batteries."
Of all the island's north coast resorts, Tingaki is probably the liveliest. But don't get too excited. This is hardly Kos Town or Kardamena. Daytime fun is largely beach based, and while there are a few bars that stay open late, the after dark scene is more about relaxing with a nightcap than dancing 'til dawn. Tingaki's beach is the resort's big draw, not just for holidaymakers but for day-trippers from Kos Town, many of whom take to bicycles to enjoy the landscapes along the way. There's an almost constant breeze, so the heat rarely gets unbearable. And if you're into windsurfing you'll be in your element, with boards for hire at several locations along the six-mile stretch of sand. Alternatively, simply chill out on a sun bed and enjoy the magnificent views across the sea, the profiles of Kalymnos, Pserimos and the coast of Turkey silhouetted by the sun on the horizon. When it comes to eating, Tingaki's choice of restaurants is relatively varied, with traditional Greek and cosmopolitan establishments strung out along the beachfront and the main road. As for excursions, head inland and you can tour the collection of charming hamlets known as the Asfendhiou villages, set in beautiful countryside and close to the island's only natural forest. A popular place to stop for a drink and a chance to soak up some local culture is Pyli, a pretty little hamlet close to the site of the island's Byzantine capital. There you'll find oodles of authentic Greek Islands charm, and you can also see the 'Tomb of Harmylos', probably the resting place of an ancient Hellenistic family, overlooked by the medieval chapel of Stavros. However you spend your time here, this is one peaceful place that you won't forget in a hurry.
