Great little hotel, good location

My friend and I wanted to book a relatively inexpensive trip to Greece so we could spend more money on eating out, trips etc, and enjoy the local area. We wanted somewhere as a base that was adults only and in the right location for us to get around the island. We were not disappointed! The Bahamas hotel has only 30 rooms, but has a good sized swimming pool which is great for your morning exercise or to chill out in when the temperature reaches 38-40 degrees (as it did while we were there in July!) There are plenty of sun loungers, and comfort pads available for them to hire at 1 Euro per day. The breakfast at The Bahamas is very basic with the usual continental selection served from 7.30am-9.30am. My only complaint on this would be that on the rare occasions when I did wake up to go down for breakfast early, half of it wasn't available, with the boiled eggs not being out until after 8am. I thought that was a bit shoddy considering how early they shut up shop on breakfast.... worth bearing in mind if you are an early riser and want to eat before 8.30am - there is a chance you won't get a full continental breakfast! (It did happen on 3 occasions during my week long stay and when I mentioned it, the lady serving breakfast did get a little snappy!) That, however, is the only real negative. The bonus we weren't aware of is that they serve a full english breakfast at the pool bar until 1pm (obviously this has to be paid for). They also serve Greek salads/ burgers/ sandwhiches and other basics throughout the day until around 4pm. The pool bar is expensive and they do require you to buy water from them as you can't have your own at the pool. It's only 1 Euro per 500ml bottle, so we dealt with it, but just be prepared because small bottles of diet coke are 2.50 Euros and a Tuna Sandwich was 5.50. The breakfast with tea was 8 Euros. If you did want to go somewhere local to eat for lunch, try La Strega around the corner (the hotel staff will be able to direct you). It's an Italian restaurant but they have a huge menu including Greek, English and American cuisine and it was all good quality (and price). The hotel also has a front bar area which is small but pretty. It's open 24 hours and the music is quite relaxed, so it doesn't bother guests in terms of noise, but it's also a nice place to start before heading out for dinner or take a nightcap on the way home. You can run a tab too, which is quite a nice touch too in terms of trust and convenience. The drinks aren't cheap (but they aren't anywhere else in Kos Town either!). 5.50 for a spirit and mixer and 4 Euros for the local beer (the Mythos is lovely if you prefer a less gassy beer). The hotel staff were wonderful, in particular Billy and Costa who run the hotel reception and bar area on back to back shifts. These guys work hard and nothing is too much for them to help you out. Billy in particular made our holiday for us. I got great advice from him on the best beaches to visit and he told me some of the nice places to visit in the area. He always had a smile for us (even when he was 12 hours into his shift) and it was Billy who suggested La Strega to us to eat when we arrived at 11pm at night to check in and were starving! The rooms are basic but very clean with a great maid service. There's a hair dryer which is quite handy when you have limited luggage allowance like we did. If you have booked a twin room, you're basically dealing with a wet room unless you want to wear a shower curtain like a cape. I would probably say if you were going with a friend consider taking a double room and sharing the bed. The rooms are a little larger and the bathrooms are a much bigger size. Air con is well worth the 50 Euros for a week and there's loads of wardrobe space. We didn't have a TV which didn't bother us at all. Not sure if all rooms didn't or just not ours...... There aren't tea and coffee making facilities, but I did hear a couple of guests mention that the hotel staff got them a kettle when they requested it - so might be worth asking the question if you're a big hot drinks fan. There is a fridge in the room which was all we needed to keep drinks cold for us. The other little touches that I liked were the fact that there are actual washing lines out in front of the balcony with pegs for you to hang your laundry, there were coat hangers in the wardrobes etc. Safety deposit boxes are 25 Euros each and a little small. You'll get a bit of jewellery, passports and money, mobile phones in there but not much else. I brought quite an expensive bluetooth Bose mini-speaker and struggled to get it in there. Location wise, the hotel is a 15 minute walk or so from the harbour/ dolphin square, and a 10 minute walk from the nearest beach. If you're looking for a beach scene, it's probably a 15 minute walk from the lively english beach area, or around 20-25 minute walk from Mylos beach, which although shale, was my favourite as there was a beautiful beach bar with lounger service and it was a little bit more classy and clearly a favourite with the locals rather than all of the British holidaymakers. Other than a bit of a skimpy breakfast (which did me a favour - I came back 2lbs lighter!) and the slightly higher prices at the pool bar, I really can't fault this hotel and would stay again. It's a great place if you come away in couples and would probably suit holiday makers 30+. My friend and I were 34 and it was a little quiet for us, but there were couples in their 40's, 50's, 60's who clearly had made some great friends and drinking buddies! In the end we enjoyed it because it provided a chilled environment to get away from the hustle and bustle and the service was brilliant. Thank-you Bahamas Hotel, in particular Billy and Costa! You made our stay an enjoyable one and we'd recommend to anyone without a doubt to visit here if staying in Kos Town!More

Sam L,

Lovely relaxing stay

Third time we have stayed here and the stay was all we wanted. Rooms are large and cleaned six days a week by excellent polite friendly staff. The hotel is small and friendly and run by Billy Costas George and Sula, and Roxy serves you with a smile and drink in the bar. We are always so pleased to be there and realise that it is a family run hotel and air con is a personal choice as is the mattress for the sun loungers. They are extras and we are happy to pay extra for them although some people were complaining. The pool area is large and has areas of shade and umbrellas in a colourful flower garden. There is a snack bar on site for meals nibbles and drinks run by Sula and her granddaughters help out when they can. It is s typical two/three star Greek hotel with good facilities great pool and nothing is too much trouble. Town centre is within an easy stroll with many restaurants and bars. More

A lovely hotel

Had a brilliant time at this hotel. It is basic ( no TVs of coffee facilities) but it's nipping clean. The pool area is lovely is great- always plenty of sunbeds and very quiet. The continental breakfast is nice and always plentiful. The staff are very friendly too. The location is great- a short walk away from busy Kos town (I was very pleased to be a little removed from it). I'd recommend hiring a bike while you're here. The bike paths along the coast are really safe and make getting around very easy. More

Love Love Love!!!!

Just stayed here recently for a week, it was very last minute and we got an extremely cheap deal, and must admit wasnt expecting much. But from the moment we arrived to our last day we were made to feel very welcome and I didnt want the holiday to end! Family run hotel, Billy,Costas and the crew were lovely, we were dubbed 'doubles' 'Sarah's' from the start and called trouble, but it was in jest and very funny! The hotel/rooms etc is super clean, and the rooms are a good size with comfortable beds. The pool is large with plenty of sunbeds, and the town just over a 10 minute walk away with so many bars/restaurants to choose from. We made some lovely friends here and I can honestly say I would come back tomorrow if I could. Dont take in the few negative reviews, this hotel is number 7 out of 229 hotels and it doesnt disappoint. Thanks again! Love The Sarah's!! More
