Alice Springs Hotel and Apartments

This small hotel has a great pool scene and puts on a mean barbecue night. Plus it’s very near the beach.

This family-run place has a 2013 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. It comes with a good-sized pool and a bar that does snacks during the day. And there are barbecue and quiz nights, too.

The nearest beach is less than 2 minutes away on foot, and you’ll find shops and bars just outside the front door. Plus, the centre of Kos Town is only a 20-minute stroll along the seafront.

Returning for the sixth time

My wife and I have been to 'The Alice' five times and are booked for number six next September! We have been to many many other places but this is truly where we are happiest. Yes the rooms are basic but they are kept very clean with clean linen and towels practically on a daily basis. All the staff are great but of course George, Barbara and Elias are really special people who will go the extra mile to ensure you are cared for. The recent report about someone forgetting their glasses in Zia is typical of the support you can expect from the family, I have seen George drive someone to the chemist and help them get the right medication, nothing is too much trouble. The location is excellent, 3 minutes to the beach and 15 minutes into Kos town which is a lovely place to wander around and enjoy. Much praise is rightly given for the Lamb nights and Steak nights, but in fact all the food is good whether it's a snack, breakfast, lunch or full evening meal. A word of warning;- 'The Alice' is addictive, but in a great way. Go and enjoy.More

BBQ night at Alice Springs

We stayed at Alice Springs in 2011 and took part in their BBQ night. We returned to Kos in September this year but stayed in different accomodation as Alice Springs was fully booked. As soon as we booked to return to Kos, the whole party said we wanted to go back to the BBQ night. The day after we arrived in Kos, my partner cycled over to Alice Springs and met with Barbara and her son Elias, both of whom remembered him. We secured places for the following Friday night and I can honestly say it was well worth it !! As a veggie, they again made me a veggie plate which was delicious. The others had the ribs and the steak which they reported were amazing. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic family !!!!More

Excellent service + lovely people = wonderful holiday!

We’ve just arrived back after a week at The Alice Springs in Kos. This was our first time in Kos & we were looking for a place that was reasonably priced, small & friendly & hopefully relatively quiet as we really wanted to spend a week doing absolutely nothing except relax in the sunshine! We didn’t want anywhere with an “animation team” or anything like that as organised activities etc… are not really our thing. We chose Alice Springs after reading the reviews on tripadvisor as it sounded exactly the sort of place we were looking for. We were not disappointed! I’ve been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit during my lifetime & we’ve never been made to feel as welcome anywhere as we were at Alice Springs. We arrived quite late – long after the kitchen had closed for the night, but they rustled up a toasted sandwich for us which was most welcome as we hadn’t eaten on the flight. George, Barbara & Elias introduced themselves right at the start & made the effort to chat with us every day, never once forgetting our names. George is what my gran would have termed " a right card" - he loves to have a joke with people and he's great fun - he instantly made us feel relaxed & at ease. Everyone (guests & staff alike) were very friendly & by the end of the week we really felt like part of the family & were very sad to leave. We stayed in a twin room in the older section of the hotel. The room itself was very basic, and the décor was old fashioned – but the beds were surprisingly comfortable (It would have been nice to have a double bed, but we knew it was a twin when we booked it), and the room had everything needed (the fridge was a godsend, as was the aircon – both of which were in good order & quiet so as not to disturb sleep) & it was all kept spotlessly clean. I have seen that some reviews posted have indicated otherwise – but I really don’t understand this as this was certainly not our experience in any areas of the hotel - it was always spotless & the staff worked tirelessly to keep everything clean & tidy. The pool was a nice size and there were plenty of sun-loungers – certainly no need to get up at the crack of dawn & reserve a bed like you need to in some places! In addition to the beds around the pool, there is a quieter area towards the back of hotel on a grassy area. We spent most of our time there as it was very peaceful & had plenty of shade which was most welcome at the hottest part of the day. The bar has a good selection of drinks (sprit measures were certainly generous!) and they offer a good variety of snacks & meals throughout the day which we found to be very good value. They hold a few theme nights throughout the week – The lamb Kleftico is not to be missed and they do a good steak on the BBQ night! We also enjoyed the curry which was very tasty & not too spicy. The bar area had several large screen TV's in different areas - most of the time during our stay they were showing sport of some kind as this seemed a popular choice, but they had all the UK channels & George, Barbara & Elias are very accommodating - if there was something in particular you wanted to watch, you only had to ask. All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and we felt it was very good value for money. We would not hesitate to recommend it & will definitely be returning ourselves. Yes the room was basic and perhaps in need of updating a little, but I urge you to take the time to ask yourself exactly what is most important to you on a holiday – the room, or the experience itself? With the lovely weather & a beautiful island to explore (or if you're like me, a pool to relax by!), I doubt you’ll be spending much time in your room – so as long as it has comfy beds, a bathroom, enough storage & is clean, that’s all you need. What makes the Alice Springs so special is the people who run it and for me, the friendly atmosphere & personal service we experienced was second to none and that is what made our holiday so memorable. I can certainly see why so many people go back time & time again and I think the tripadvisor ranking of #1 accommodation in Kos town is well deserved. I really hope to return next year and i'm already looking at prices! On another note - we booked through Thomson holidays. My experience with Thomson in the past hasn't been great - but this time they couldn't have been better. Our rep - Georgia was great & very helpful. The welcome meeting was at a reasonable time of day & was very relaxed - there was no hard sell for trips etc... which made a nice change! Absolutely no complaints.More

Most of the reviews here are spot on re the apartments, family, food etc. Beach/supermarket 2 mins away. Personally, I cannot fault the cleanliness efficiency and courtesy shown by all the staff. The family are lovely, will always talk to you - the rest of the team work so hard that it runs so smoothly, down to the maintenance men and cleaners. Not forgetting the Cook and the lovely young girl who worked in the evenings also. Room 104 is the best we have ever had in Greece and can flush paper down the loo! We decided the best spot for us was the garden area - just away from the pool music etc., not that it was loud or intrusive, it was just our preference. You have the best of both worlds. Kos Town is walking distance either by beach or road (beach way seems to be quicker). It has a cosmopolitan buzz about it. Hundreds of tourists from everywhere. There is a harbour in Town where ferries are to and fro all the time to Turkey, other Greek Islands etc. All the usual tourist shops, restaurants, tavernas etc. A good place to sit and people watch is in the square under the big tree to shelter from the heat. Restaurant - too many to mention but in Lambi the Sunset Taverna is the best on the main road and Sophies on the beach. You would be hard pressed to have a bad meal in Kos but each restaurant presents their meals their way. My only complaint is air con. The first few nights without it were unbearable (end Aug.), so decided to buy for a few nights only to be told we had to buy it for the remainder of the holiday - 11 nights 88 Euros. I feel that if I wanted it for 1, 3 or 7 nights then that is what I should be able to have and pay for accordingly. If you have one A/C unit the charge is 7 Euros, 2 units,8 Euros and 3 units, 9 Euros. So just bear in mind you cant have it for part of the holiday. If the temp cools down the you lose out. This was our first time here. We would happily go back to Alice Springs but I would email ahead to request room 104. Barbra and George will remember us as I always drank Baileys, Amaretto and Cointreau as a cocktail and I left my glasses in Zia but George managed to get them brought back to Lambi for me - so a big thank you to you. Fabulous holiday due to fantastic hotel and staff

Just come back from a two week holiday to Kos with family, son and daughter-in-law,their 3 year old son, he'd parents and one of my other sons. Right from arrival made to feel welcome and like part of the family by George, Barbara and their son Elias who run the hotel. Remembered all our names and favourite drinks and always helpful. Rest of staff also friendly and helpful. Special nights, BBQ and lamb night superb and attended by people not staying at hotel, but had heard how good they were! Not a 5 star hotel, but we knew that when we booked and you get what you pay for and more! Always clean and tidy. Rooms nice size and cleaned daily. Pool and pool bar great. Beach close by and Kos town centre about 15 mins walk.More
