Climbing the slopes of a pretty hillside by Kefalonia's southwest shore, the village of Spartia turns simplicity into an art form. And holidays in Spartia turn stressed-out to chilled-out in almost no time at all.
This quiet little place just oozes authentic Greek island charm … from its bell-towered church to its rustic houses and cluster of traditional tavernas around the village square. With just two or three shops in the village, there's never a rush hour in Spartia. Holidays here don't go with rush. They're more inclined to gorgeous walks through olive and citrus groves, finding a secret secluded bay for swimming in crystal clear seas, and coming 'home' at sunset for a taverna meal that's really traditional and realistically cheap. Holidays to Spartia have a perfect daytime focus too – the little harbour and fishing jetty, flanked by sand and rocky coves. One is super for snorkelling, the other's shallow shelving is the child-friendly choice. Spread your wings a bit and you'll come to Pesada village, where regular ferries could take you to Zante. And you may be inspired by the seascapes from nearby Metaxata. Byron was.
Now here's the best bit. For self-catering holidays in Spartia, we've added peace, privacy and a private pool at each of two elegant villas overlooking the sea. Temptation comes in the form of the Sandy & Secret Cove Retreats. Give in to it now …last minute holidays to Spartia are few and far between.
