"Traditionally Greek with a small church, some local tavernas and two or three shops centred round its village square, Spartia is a classically unspoilt sleepy little village."
In the lush hilly countryside above the sea in the southwest of Kefalonia is the village of Spartia, totally unspoilt and very much off the beaten track. It is good walking territory with many small paths and lanes leading around the hills. Walk along a twisting country lane for a mile down to the sea and you will find a small fishing jetty with quiet, isolated sandy beaches either side, backed by picturesque white cliffs. The white sand shelves gently down into the sea, making it an ideal place for children.
Explorers may like to visit the village to the east of Spartia, Pessadha, where you can catch a ferry to the island of Zante - or take the short trip inland to Metaxata where the poet Byron lived for a few months. He was mightily impressed by the amazing views in this part of Kefalonia, and we're convinced you will be, too.
