Hotel Paspalis

in Skala , Kefalonia T rating: 3

  • Close to the beach
  • Traditional taverna restaurant
  • Quiet location
A traditional Greek property in a fabulous spot not far from the beach, the Hotel Paspalis makes for a relaxing retreat.
Pulled right up against a sandy beach, this place couldn’t get much closer to the shore. What’s more, it’s backed by rugged, tree-stacked hillsides so there’s a really peaceful vibe. Plus, the views are first class. The Paspalis attracts couples seeking a quiet location within easy reach of the pretty resort centre. Skala itself, is just a short coastal walk away. Dotted with tavernas, bars and restaurants, it’s ideal for evenings out.

When you just want to relax, though, the Hotel Paspalis is a great place to take it easy. Set in an oasis of lawns, pine trees and climbing vines, it’s every inch the good-looking hideaway. At the heart of it all is a large swimming pool, bordered by a wide sun deck. There’s an outdoor bar area, too, complete with a shady al fresco terrace.

Head inside, meanwhile, and the laid-back theme continues. Rooms have a Mediterranean feel with fresh white walls, cool tiled floors and painted wooden furniture. In-room comforts like air-conditioning, mini-fridges and satellite TVs keep things up-to-date. Plus, each one comes with a private balcony or terrace, so you can soak up the scenery whenever you like.

As for the hotel restaurant, it serves up the best of Greek cuisine with a local wine list to match. Fresh seafood plays a starring role, too, with grilled fish regularly topping the menu. If you’re after something a little lighter, meanwhile, the pool bar offers up drinks, snacks and ice-cream throughout the day.

Your guide to Skala, Kefalonia

"The growing resort of modern Skala, almost at the southern-most tip of Kefalonia, offers visitors the most glorious long sandy and pebble beach backed by fragrantly handsome pine trees."

With the mountains to your back, you can gaze across the Ionian Sea from the peaceful resort of Skala. This former fishing village offers plenty to do, yet has managed to remain small and very friendly. Wander through the narrow streets admiring humble fishing cottages, enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee at one of the pavement cafés or make friends with the locals over a game of cards. The long, gently shelving beach is Skala's star attraction. This lively town attracts families and couples of all ages.
