Happy Family Stay in July
As with other reviews, we found the hotel to be excellent. Staff were welcoming and always happy to help. Food was good, with 2 theme nights out of 7 (BBQ and Greek Night), nothing to rave about, but very adequate. Rooms were very nice. We had a Family Deluxe which has a very large room downstairs with flat screen and then stairs leading up to a mezzanine level with 2 twins, again a good size. Wifi in the room. Room was cleaned daily and left spotlessly clean each day. Large balcony. We were in Room 363 which was 2 mins walk from the main restaurant and bar area. No noise, very quiet. Our room is 1st floor with nice sea view. Pool was good size, with small infant pool adjacent. Never any problem with pool loungers and only 1 or 2 people doing the early morning towel thing. No need. Xi beach is just 5 mins walk from the hotel and was well serviced (Beach beds, 5 euros/pair for the day). Very good little shop by the beach (large bottle water - 1 euro) and all restaurants by the beach were really good. Apollonion only offers B&B or half board and all drinks, incl. water were extra at dinner. Glass wine 4 euros. Pool bar for lunch was nice, not overly expensive and good portions. I would take a travel kettle next time and some coffee for beverages in the room on an evening. Gym was poorly equipped, but spa was lovely. Beds in the room were very large, but a little hard for us. Nothing really for older children to do at the hotel - there is a tennis court, table tennis, pool tables, so perhaps the hotel could do something to improve this area. Maybe tennis lessons, sailing at the beach, something for teens would be good. Captain Nicolas restaurant at nearby Vatsa was fabulous, with great views, and wonderful owners. 16 euros, each way by taxi from the hotel and so worth it. Food was wonderful. So fresh. You can then walk down to the beach at Vatsa (which doesn't have any facilities, but is great snorkelling). Independent Traveller - Getting to Apollonion Taxi to Agostiri Ferry - 20 euros, Ferry (2 adults, 2 children - 10 euros), arrive Lixouri. Taxi rank is directly opposite ferry in a small town square. Taxi from Lixouri to Hotel - 10 euros. This is really easy to do, so don't be put off the remoteness of the Apollonion, as it's really worth the trouble. Sixt/Mercury Car hire is next door to hotel, so hiring a car very easy with free parking at the hotel. Lots to see on the island but car is needed and we would do that next time.More

Perfect place for our first holiday together âºï¸
My boyfriend and I were completely stuck when our original plan to go away and stay with family fell through. Neither of us earn to much however we found an amazing price for this place on Expedia. We researched a lot and I can honestly say we couldn't have found anywhere nicer! The most amazing break! The food was incredible, such a variety of choice and if you didn't fancy the hotel food its just a short walk to a few local beachside restaurants. The beach is a 5min walk and there's so much to do! We went parasailing on our first day and was the best experience. We also got in contact with a company called Outdoor Kefalonia and went sea kayaking for a day, cannot recommend the island high enough. The room in the hotel was clean and very welcoming, we asked for a double but did get two twin beds next to each other which was annoying when we wanted to be closer but that's just being picky! We got a couples massage and took full advantage of the spa. It's â¬12 for an hour in the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, well worth it! Loved this place, never going to forget it â¤ï¸More
My wife and I visited the Apollonion Resort and spa on the island of Kafalonia in July this year, it was our 1st visit to the island and I hadn't had the time to really do any research about it before we went so we had a chance to to experience it with an open mind and eyes. The airport is small which is good as we were through quickly and with minimal fuss and on the coach which was a short ride to the ferry at Argostoli then across to Lixouri where we had a 10 minute coach ride to the hotel, we had been slightly delayed on the flight out and the restaurant had closed on our arrival but after a short check in we were shown to our rooms where we found some sandwiches and also a bottle of wine complements of the hotel which I thought was a nice touch. The room was spacious, the bathroom was also a good size, the bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean. We had chosen the half board option and on our 1st morning we went down for breakfast, there was a choice of hot and cold food and it was the usual food you would find in an all inclusive hotel, quantity rather than quality, we also found this at dinner also but what I found a little strange that at breakfast, drinks, tea, coffee, juice and water was available from the machines but at dinner all drinks including water had to be paid for.The waiting on staff worked very hard to turn the tables around but when it got busy, around 20.00 they seemed to become a little disorganised and tetchy. The hotel was clean and fresh, the pool a good size but its location is a little remote, there was a small beach about a 10 minute walk but as for evening entertainment it was either a taxi ride to Lixouri or a taxi to Lixouri then ferry to Argostoli where ww found some lovely restaurants and great bars, other than that there was not much else to do apart from a night at the hotel with a lady DJ who could of had a job at wax works, just simply played song after song while blankly staring into god knows where. I don't think we would return to the Apollonion as it seemed a bit expensive for what it was but if you enjoy a holiday sat mainly by the pool and don't mind the service being a tad hit and miss and quiet evenings then you would probably enjoy the Apollonion Resort and spa, we will most definitely return to Kefalonia as the island is beautiful and the people very friendly but, most likely self catering or bed and breakfast and most definitely hire a car to get around as the island has some magnificent beaches. Lovely hotel, fantastic staff & lovely area
Stayed at this lovely hotel from 19th - 26th July 2015! Arrived at the hotel and while we were sorting rooms out and filling in a form, we were welcomed with a cold drink at reception! The reception staff were lovely and welcoming and the whole reception area was spotless! We then went up to our room and it was lovely! very very very spotless! couldn't fault it! nice view over the pool etc! Literally couldn't believe how nice the room was, alt better than we expected! Pool area was lovely and all staff were very welcoming and friendly! Breakfast buffet was beautiful and during the day we went to the little restraunt by the pool, beautiful food, staff there were brilliant and kept checking if everything was okay!! evening buffet was lovely also, a lot of selection there! There was a little mini market five minutes walk from the hotel when turning left out of the hotel, and the beach was there too! XI beach was lovely, we went in the evening when it was cooler just for a little walk! All in all, our stay was lovely and relaxing! Had the best time! All staff were absolutely fantastic! Would definitely visit again!!More
Excellent value and a wonderful place for a break.
Booked through Thomson, like I suspect you all will, and paid a very reasonable sum for half board. Hotel is spotless and very attractively decorated with object d'art from the on-site art-gallery. Staff were all good English speakers and helpful in every way. The reception staff were particularly lovely. Food is a buffet set-up with probably 7 or 8 choices for mains and many salad options. It's all prepared in full sight of the guests and chefs happy to take requests. Good daily selections. Pool is a wonderfully tepid place, just perfect for frequent dips in the 40 deg temps we experienced. Drinks are decently priced: 20 odd euros for a decent bottle of wine with dinner (the whites are very drinkable and the reds OK) Happy 2 hrs every day and special 'cocktail of the day' 1/2 prices deals. Outdoor cinema is a joy: eclectic selection of indy and main-stream movies inc Big Fat Greek Wedding/Arbitrage/Colour Purple/Tangled/Nebraska and of course, Cpt Corelli's Mandolin which was filmed on the island. TV choice in room is woeful: 3 Eng lang news channels and pay-to-view selection of un-heard-of 'straight to DVD' movies all best avoided. Trip over on the ferry is a 20 minute joy with lovely sea-breezes to cool you. Thereafter a 5 minute journey to hotel. Lots to do on the island but a hire car would be essential if you want to avoid organised tours. In conclusion: a lovely quiet place that is perfect for coupes and families that like to go to bed at midnight. Not for you if you like lager and karaoke binges - sorry.More
