Villa Athina

in Chalikeri , Kefalonia

  • Magnificent views
  • Private pool and shaded terrace
  • Near Fiskardo
Nestled on the hillside with spectacular sea views & sunsets
You’ll find Villa Athina in the sleepy little hamlet of Chalikeri close to Fiskardo, on top of a hill filled with eucalyptus trees and olive groves. Although newly built, Villa Athina has a certain rustic charm. The stone walls have a rosy pink tinge, the floors are tiled, the ceilings are wooden beamed, and furniture, although traditional in style, has a contemporary twist. All of it helps create a comfortable and relaxing environment.

Outside, to the front of the villa, is a private pool and a partly-shaded terrace that can be accessed via double doors from both the bedrooms and the living room. With its marble and wrought-iron patio furniture, it's the perfect place to relax while really taking in the magnificent sea views and sunsets.

Just a short drive away is the harbour in Fiskardo, where pastel-coloured Venetian buildings watch over the local fishermen preparing their nets for the next catch. The only town not to have been devastated by the earthquake in 1953, Fiskardo has retained much of its original architecture. It’s now a bustling fishing village with an 'L' shaped waterfront, lined with shaded tavernas.

Your guide to Chalikeri, Kefalonia

“Put your feet up and let your worries flow away – restful, hillside Chalikeri will revive your soul.”

Ssssssh. That’s the only sound that could possibly come from this slumbering hillside village seven kilometres from Fiskardo in Kefalonia’s north west. For Chalikeri, read peace and quiet - and lots of it.
Surrounded by eucalyptus-clad hills and set between the coves of Atlaties and Agia Ierosalim, this tiny hamlet’s well and truly off the beaten track. Yet happily, its hillside perch offers some of Kefalonia’s most stirring views. At sundown, pour yourself a drink and gaze out to sea as the fading Greek sun lowers itself below the horizon. And by day, a pair of binoculars might just reward you with glimpses of the rare monk seals that bob up and down along this slice of coast.
Here though, most days are about finding a nearby, sun-drenched cove to top up that tan – maybe at Atlaties, where a beachside taverna serving chilled retsina and home-cooked specialities beckons. Even if you tire of these gentle distractions, there’s still the attraction of winding woodland paths, perfect for exploring in the cool of evening or morning.
For a day out, the charming harbour village of Fiskardo sits around the coast with its excellent fish restaurants, smart cafes and arty gift shops. Alternatively, drive a little further to the lesser-known village of Assos, stunningly perched on a steep promontory topped by a ruined castle.
By night, settle down with a Metaxa as the stars twinkle to life in the sky. Or liven things up with an outing to Fiskardo, checking out the tavernas and tapping your feet to the sweet sound of bouzouki music – Captain Corelli style.
