Traditional stone-built houses in a quiet & secluded spot overlooking the Straits of Ithaca
The clue here’s in the name. The Old Stone House is, unsurprisingly, a traditional stone building split into two houses. From outside, they look undeniably cute with sky-blue shutters giving it an almost French farmhouse look. Out in front of the houses, there’s also the shared pool, with a private terrace for each of the properties. Better yet, it’s all set in a very pretty garden with views through the trees down towards Ithaca and Everti Bay.
Inside, in keeping with the façade, the back-to-basics interior design makes really good use of the natural materials. Just think stone walls, beamed ceilings and simple wooden furniture. It might not be cutting-edge, but the rustic charm gives the place a wonderfully homely feel.
As for the location, you’ll find the Stone House in Bazukata, a tiny cypress-and-pine-covered hillside hamlet. In fact, it’s so small you’ll need to venture up to Managanos to stock up on groceries. Or, there’s the option of driving to Fiskardo. This bustling little harbour village is only ten minutes away, but you’ll still find a number of lovely fish restaurants, tavernas and cafés.

Bazukata’s pure escapist territory. A hamlet so small it hardly figures on anyone’s mind, it’ll bring you out in goose bumps of pleasure if you want a totally inactive holiday.
What it hasn’t got by way of things to do, it easily makes up for with uplifting scenery. Tucked into dense cypress and pinewoods, this tiny place overlooks the beautiful bay of Evereti. Providing the visual icing on the cake are the sun-drenched mountains of neighbouring Ithaka above.
When you need provisions, head up the hillside to pretty Manganos village, where you’ll find the obligatory sleepy grocer’s store. And if you fancy delving deeper into Kefalonia’s lush interior, it’s all on a plate for you. Just open your door and follow one of the quiet tracks through the olive groves to wrap yourself in peaceful villages, ancient orchards and old-time tavernas. And when the classic sunbathing-swimming combo calls, just head downwards to find a secluded pebble bay, washed by pearly, pure waters.
Fancy a dose of civilization? If so, then Fiskardo, ten minutes away, does the trick. Edged by a deliciously pretty waterfront lined with candy-coloured houses and fine fish tavernas, this bustling village is laced with chic shops, making it perfect for souvenir-pottering. And come evening, this is where to head for a long, lazy meal of fresh fish and salad enjoyed under a silvery Greek moon.
