  • Picturesque location
  • Fantastic pool
  • Weekly barbecue
This place has got everything you need for a family break – a great location, a relaxed pool scene, and apartments that come with all the mod-cons.
The Royal Kostas Apartments have clinched a quiet spot in Polichrono, so they’re really peaceful. That said, they put you within easy reach of everything – Polichrono’s town centre is less than a five-minute walk away, as is Polichrono Beach.

Back at the apartments, the vibe is really laid-back. Two swimming pools take a central spot in the grounds, flanked by loungers and parasols. Plus, there’s a pool bar offering up drinks and snacks throughout the day – expect to see Greek salads and ham and cheese toasties among the offerings. The weekly barbecue night here is really popular, too.

As for the apartments themselves, they’re fairly simple, with tiled floors, whitewashed walls and simple dark-wood furniture. They come with all the essentials, like air-conditioning, TVs and kitchenettes with electric rings. Best of all, they all come with a balcony or terrace.

Your guide to Polichrono, Halkidiki

“If we’re talking classic Greek sun and sand holidays, Polichrono is the real deal. It’s the epitome of easy going.”

Its name means ‘very old’. But don’t worry. It’s a reference to the Polichrono’s long heritage, not the people who go there or the state of the local amenities. In fact, this friendly spot combines both ancient and modern with aplomb. A purpose-built seafront promenade lined with cafes and restaurants rubs shoulders with a traditional village - complete with red-roofed, flower-decked houses. Beach-wise, this place is hard to beat. Over 30 feet wide and half a mile long, the sand and pebble beach shelves gently into calm waters. Great for swimming, whatever your age or ability. And if you’re into underwater exploration, it’s certainly worth slipping on a snorkel. The crystal clear waters make it easy to get an eyeful of the fascinating world of fish. Shopaholics may be prone to withdrawal symptoms. But a trip to Thessaloniki will provide big-time relief. And you can also take the opportunity to get a culture fix at the city’s fine museums. In the evenings, Polichrono is lively, but not exactly hyper-active. The main focus of attention is the seafront with its tavernas, although there are also a few bars which serve pop music with the shots. For some spectacular views of the village and the beautiful, blue Aegean Sea, head inland on the main road where the landscape rises and is covered with olive groves.
