Panorama Studios and Apartments

For a lively holiday within striking distance of the beach, the no-frills Panorama Studios and Apartments are spot on. There's a small pool and sun terrace outside, plus bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

If you want a simple base near Stalis beach, this place is ideal. It’s on the main beach road, just a minute’s walk from the sand. Plus, it’s in the heart of the action, with a great mix of bars, shops and restaurants on the doorstep.

In terms of facilities, the complex concentrates on the essentials. The pool sits to one side of the apartments, flanked by sunloungers and parasols. There’s a music bar here, too, with staff ready to bring your drinks and snacks direct to your sunlounger. Plus, the Panorama has its own stone-built bar right next to the beach.

On the food front, you’ve got an open-sided restaurant facing the street. It’s a casual affair where you can sit down to things like pizzas and crepes at both lunch and dinner.

As for accommodation, the studios and apartments are basic but comfortable, with whitewashed walls and good-sized balconies or terraces.

Fawlty Towers of greece without the fun! - Avoid this place

We picked this place after reading previous good reviews ( we booked end of Dec 2014 and there's more recent unhappy ones:( ) we arrived in the early hours of the morning after a delayed flight. We were met by the owners son who took our passport details and asked if we wanted Air con @50 euros as week or a safe. We were very tired and said we would sort this later if wanted as all we wanted to do was goto bed. He took us to room 101 which is in the main hotel block on the ground floor directly opposite the lift and within earshot of the reception. Upon entering the room he were hit by a wave of hot air and the room reeked of cigarette smoke. It was then that the owners son decided to tell that the air con didn't work and made a clicking sound for a min or so and that an engineer was due to visit to fix it the next day ( bear in mind he just asked us for 100 euro for it knowing it didn't work) The room is was very dated and the bathroom smelt dank and damp with just 1 small window for ventilation. The tiles were black in places and it wasn't very clean. I bottle of bleach would have gone a long way in there. The bath side was rusting ( see images) There was no plug in the small bath nor in the sink. The shower was a mixer tap but there;s no shower screen or curtain and the water pours on the floor where it pools by the bath and in front of the toilet. The floor doesn't drain well, which makes sitting on the toilet a interesting experience whist trying to keep your pants dry! Whats laughable it that they only provide you with 1 toilet roll and you have to buy your own from then on, whist this is not a massive expense it seems very tight and I have not stayed anywhere where this is the case. The kitchenette is very small and ours was in a poor state of cleanliness with the hobs rusting and the self catering facilities were next to none we had just 2 spoons 2 dinner knives and 2 teaspoons and forks. 2 odd dinner plates and 2 mugs. No kitchen utensils, no bread or utility sharp knives, no kettle but we did have a toaster and small pan. You had no hope of cooking any half decent meals and no where really to prepare it, no chopping boards and unless you wanted to cut stuff up on the dressing table ( difficult with no knife!) the room was very dated and not particularly clean. Noise from reception was bad especially on a morning with the owner shouting and talking early on. The Thomson rep was pretty useless and didn't even know who we were or that we had arrived which didn't bode well and he didn't resolve any of the issues we raised during our stay and we had to use the 24/7 helpline. It took a week and multiple emails to get a couple of bowls a kettle and 1 steak type knife but we were still unable to cook any meal and had to eat out. The only thing we make was sandwiches and once made some soup. Hot water was a nightmare with most days us having to take cold showers as the water was not hot and despite complaining and reporting it multiple times it was so hit and miss. It seems the water is heated via solar and when its gone its gone usually after 6pm when most people have had a shower. We gave up in the end and resigned ourselves to a cold shower most days. I found the owners quite rude, especially when trying to address issues with them and they do understand far more English than they have you believe and its used as a barrier to limit responses. The pool was fairly clean with 1 dangerous broken tile round the edge which was not dealt with during our 2 week stay ( see image) I did not however see anyone clean it, not it may have been done early in morning but I have in the past places usually seen someone cleaning the pool regular during the day. as were unhappy with the studio apartment and lack of any real interest to resolve our issues we never ate in their restaurant as I was to be honest unwilling to give them any more of my hard earned money. We had little choice but to eat out every day and there's plenty of bars and eateries nearby with varying standards and choice of food. I did feel it was a little expensive and certainly more than we pay to eat out in Spain where we usually go. Stalis itself is not a bad place but does present areas of dereliction and has a run down feel. The road runs along to Malia and it treacherous due to no real footpaths and cars and quad drivers showing little regards for safety. The hotek has its own beach area which we were told was free to use for hotel guests, however on out first visit to it we were met with rude demands for 4 euros for the sunbeds and told to take our stuff and go elsewhere if we didn't like it the bar area down there is quite run down and the toilets on our visits were dirty and had no toilet paper. The beach in general is small and rocky in places with most bars offering use of theirs for between 3 & 5 euros some with WiFi and some offering a free drink too. My son and his girlfriend arrived to stay 2 days after us and had a broken shower which took a week of emails and complaints before it was fixed & the only catering items they had were 2 mugs and a spoon and a kettle nothing else at all, they complained and even once while we were sat outside chatting we confronted the owners son about it who said they had no bowls or anything spare, we said that wasn't acceptable and he shrugged, we suggested he get some from the restaurant and he said no as they needed them, my sons girlfriend shouted so do we ! to which he once again shrugged and said ah well it was embarrassing and they had not upto our departure (2 weeks) got any items. We heard lots of guests having arguments over various issues including air con not working even after they have paid, and the owners refusing to refund money. lack of self catering items, some guests were trying to be extorted for more money as they had left the air con on and he wasn't happy and was shouting. If you have paid for it you should be able to have it on for however long you choose. Some families or 4 were put in 1 studio room despite them expecting 1 bedroom and 1 other room etc. The rear of the hotel is what looking like private apartments (the roof being derelict at the rear) and there is a dog which barks regular when anyone walks past at all hours of day or night. The owners which live on the top floor of the main block have 2 dogs which also bark regular with no intervention in seems. Behind is the main road where too is another dog which barks a lot and they even have a cockerel crowing on a morning! I would not recommend staying here and I am surprised as the reviews of some saying its great, our experience was far from that and for almost £1000 for the 2 of us and the additional costs we had to pay beyond our planned budget to eat out it was not a cheap holiday at all. The hotel is dated and needs to ensure all rooms are properly equipped with a good basic standard of kitchen equipment, crockery and utensils. The rooms need cleaning properly and regular which ours most certainly wasn't the bin was emptied daily, our floor was mopped once in 2 weeks and the bath/sink/toilet were cleaned once the day before the end of our stay. Avoid this place and find somewhere better !!!More

arrogant owner... worst hotel i ever have stayed in

stayed at the panorama for 2weeks beginning of august, booked 3x studios for 3 adults and 4 teens, was put in the old 1960s block same floor as owners and dogs, the rooms are more basic than basic with tongue and groove deco the bath was rusty!? toilet seat broke wires on top of bathroom unit hanging freely the cleaner comes around and just mops no sweeping up sheets are changed once yes once in 2weeks they provide 1 loo roll you do the rest,,if you stay in the old block the owners dogs will bark you up every morning without fail although soft and cuddly this will become annoying, owners where can i start eva is a lovely lady nothing too much trouble her other half nikos what an arrogant man he is he actually makes you feel uncomfortable when hes around, heard him telling kids to be quiet and go back to their rooms, telling kids to stop playing football on the public path at side of hotel, we paid 300euros for 3x air con on the first day these keys have the electric fob on ours came snapped so took the fob off and left it in the socket for the air con to be on this didnt go down well ha the owner went into our room and took it and when i went down hewent crazy shouting in greek like i can understand him his son then tried to say we hadnt paid the 300 and we need to pay this before i get it back if it wasnt for a woman who could translate god knows what would of happened i was charged an extra 50euros for a days aircon and 20euros to fix a keyring that was already broke, make sure you check your keys before you leave reception as they might try this with people, hotel pool is small and goes neck deep a metre in,resturant is not cheap 7e for a spirit and coke 4e soft drink 5.90e for a brekkie they are complete scammers!!! the resort its self is fairly big from one end to the other with loads and loads of places to eat theres 2 "pubs" robin hood and slaint irish bar (recommended) for the hospitality and football and theres 1 bar/nightclub sort of thing called rhythm good but seems after 2nd day hes got same cd on replay id recommend hiring quads as you can visit all diff areas at little cost and have fun at diff beaches and resorts provisional licence is acceptable.. in terms of friendlyness and things to do would i return to stalis and i wouldnt recommend it against corfu and zante as them islands are much betterMore

My 7 days stay at Panorama hotel

My stay at Panorama in stalis, Crete, was lovely. Lovely service with a warm family feel about the place and the management and restaurant staff were such warm and kind people. My two friends and I all felt comfortable and at home with a family feel at the hotel. I will miss the amazing people I met who worked at the hotel! The food was excellent in the restaurant and the room was nice. Will surely recommend it to people. More

Good location, nice pool but hotel not up to scratch

We booked this hotel because of the good reviews and good price mainly. On arrival we were taken to a two person studio when in fact we had booked a three person. After asking to move the hotel staff were very rude and we had to wait 5 hours to actually get into the room we'd paid for The room wasn't clean even after the cleaners had been in each day and the self catering studio offered little to actually cook with i.e. no utensils, sharp knives, bottle opener/can opener etc. In fact we didn't even eat in in the end because it was too difficult. From what I can gather, the central block we were staying in was the oldest, I think the others were much better so request those if you can. The floor we were on as well also seem to house the owners dogs which barked all night long. The pool area is nice enough though and the bar staff are friendly. You can usually always get a sunbed. The area itself is perfect for families with the livelier Hersonissos or Malia close by as well. The beach is literally a few steps away and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. I had a good holiday but the reception staff were so unfriendly that they did make us feel very uncomfortable at times. We hadn't prepared for extra charges such as the aircon being 100euro for two weeks.More

Great for a big family

We arrived at this hotel having been recommended by family members, who were staying with us. There were 11 of us in total, spread over four separate rooms. My partner and I were only staying for a week, but the rest of our family were staying for two. From the minute we stepped off the coach to the minute we left, we were treated like family by the staff. Yes, the rooms were simple in comparison to some other hotels (but had everything we needed), which would have likely cost twice as much, but it's not always just the accommodation. The way we were treated over the week we stayed made us no doubt want to return. We cannot wait to see Manos, Eva, Nikos and Stavros again, not forgetting the rest of the staff! A fantastic holiday! We will be back! More
