Malia is renowned as a party centre on Crete, so it may come as a surprise to know that it is home to the remains of its very own Minoan Palace. A far cry from the bustle of the resort centre, the Palace is situated on a quieter stretch of the coast, 2km to the east of the town. It is a peaceful site where visitors are free to wander among the ruins and it's a pleasant break from the usual holiday routine to hire a bicycle and ride out of town for a couple of hours.
