Two private beaches and immaculate grounds give the Nana Beach Hotel a fantastic setting.

This hotel is set on the waterfront in Hersonissos, and commands spectacular views of the Sea of Crete. Two private sandy beaches run along the front of the property. They’re dotted with thatched umbrellas and feature rocky platforms for sunbathing that jut out into the water.

The hotel is made up of low-level whitewashed blocks, which are scattered among cobbled pathways and flower beds sprouting palm trees and fuchsia bougainvillea. The grounds look especially good at night, when the walkways are lit by lanterns.

You’ll find 5 swimming pools dotted among the grounds. One is just for adults, 3 come with built-in whirlpool baths, and some look out to sea.

At mealtimes, meanwhile, you’ve got 5 restaurants to take your pick from. The 2 buffet restaurants serve pan-Mediterranean cuisine, and the 3 à la cartes specialise in fresh seafood, Italian and Greek dishes.

A modern resort overlooking the sapphire-blue seas, it won’t win many stars for authentic Greek atmosphere, but it’s a constant hit with the young crowd, attracted by its superb beach life and buzzing bars, restaurants and discos. And when it comes to kicking back, this town really knows how to do it, with three beaches to choose from. And whichever pocket of pillow-soft sand you decide to stretch out on, all offer great watersports, with some of the best facilities you’ll find anywhere on the island. For more thrills and spills, you also find the Star Beach Water Park here where you can brave the chutes and shoot down the scream-if-you-want-to-go-faster slides. Back in town you can browse the shops for bargain leather goods, while breathing in the fragrant scents of the herb and spice stores, selling produce from the mountains. Then it’s time to get ready for the evening’s activities. The focal point of Hersonissos’ nightlife is the attractive harbour area, teeming with waterside bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy anything from ‘moussaka’ to Mexican. However, if you prefer a more relaxed pace of life, you won’t be completely out of place in Hersonissos. The charming Old Town has quaint narrow streets, lined with friendly tavernas, while the villages of Piskopiano and Koutouloufari are perfect places to sit in a café, enjoy the traditional Cretan atmosphere and take in the magnificent views of the sea.
