Could not fault the hotel - wonderful
just came back from 1 week's stay at the King Minos Palace. could not fault it at all! all was great - room, staff - reception, restaurant, pool bar, housekeeping. nothing was too much of a trouble, looked after us properly :) arrived at 2am, got led to our room by great night porter, as we have arrived too late on first day - got complimentary free dinner on our last day as our transfer was quite late. our departure time was 20.30, we had to check out of our room by 12 but hotel kindly gave us a "day room" and fresh towels for us to be able to freshen up or have a lie down - thanks! the only downside - no beach towels, you have to get them fro the souvenir shop and pay 10 EUR deposit for each towel, yes you get money back but would have been nice to know in advance, we would have brought some towels with us... hotel is great for families, further from the centre - meaning good night sleep no noise. special shout outs to waiter Dimitrios, Georgios and Liza - our super stars. always cheerful and helpful. head waiter - Giorgio - not nice at all, never responded to Hello, just was there kind of in the way.... Katarina - small blonde girl from the restaurant - always miserable and sour. other than that - could not have wished for better stay! thank you allMore
very good hotel
from the second we arrived to when we got on the coach to go home every member of staff we had dealings with were friendly and helpful nothing was too much bother we even had the staff greeting us in the town and even sitting in a bar having a drink with us. the hotel and amenities were very clean and tidy. our room was cleaned every day and if you wanted fresh towels daily. air con was complimentary and a safe deposit in the wardrobe. there is a mini fridge in the room but it was not on a permanent circuit so if you were out of the room taking the key card with you the fridge was off. the bar was pretty good stocking plenty of differing drinks and was competitive with local bars in prices. the restaurant was very good and food was of good quality and plenty of variety. the only complaint about the restaurant is that we were told formal wear was required meaning trousers but when we went there most people were in shorts. the pool was well maintained and clean though every time we went to the pool the sunbeds were taken even when there was nobody at the pool towels were there claiming the sunbeds. overall a nice hotel and we had a great timeMore
Good four star hotel.......
If you come understanding this is a four star hotel and not five stars then you shouldn't be disappointed. The hotel is located a good five minutes walk up hill from the main road at the eastern edge of Hersonissos. The beach area is reached via a seperate pathway down the hill, which is pleasant in itself, but as other reviewers have mentioned, culminates in a low height tunnel (more like a storm drain) under the main road. The beaches are free, but you have to pay for sunbeds and umbrellas. We found many of the beaches heading into Hersonissos to be busy with loud music (rather tacky like the town itself). By far the best was Meltemi Beach which is to your immediate right as you approach the coast. Very peaceful with a great restaurant and bar and a freshwater pool if you need a break from the sea. Back at the hotel, the pool is of a good size although the sunbeds are quickly "reserved" with towels. The adjacent bar offers a shaded retreat for drinks or lunch. Rooms are fairly basic but perfectly adequate and cleaned daily to a high standard. While rooms have a tv, there are only two English channels so a little limited. WiFi is chargeable, but reading other reviews is pretty poor anyway do we didn't bother. Safes are available in your room but you have to pay €3 a day for the key ! Foodwise, my observation is that most of the guests are German and the catering is to their taste. We found it to be fine, but not particularly special. We could always find enough to eat but most dishes were a little bland. Staff here and on reception were very friendly and efficient. Overall I have no complaints with the hotel itself, but would have prefered a smaller village location than the rather developed Hersonissos. That said, it's a good base from which to explore more of Crete !More

Still a great hotel, I love it!!
I first visited the King Minos Palace in 1995, went back in 1996 & because other things got in the way, didn't go back again until 2006. I found the hotel just as charming & the staff just as lovely, some even that remembered me after that long gap, I was very impressed by that. I'm a single traveller & have met & made many friends at the KMP & I've returned every year since 2006, sometimes twice in a year, to meet up with these friends. I've not long come home from my 16th visit & will be going again in September for my 17th holiday & anticipate I will make new friends, it's such a friendly place. I hope that tells you how great this hotel is. All the staff go the extra mile to ensure your stay is good, the food is excellent, so much to choose from. Pool is kept scrupulously clean & the pool area the same, plenty of sunbeds even at busy times & you're not squashed together. I think all the tour operators who serve the KMP will tell you that it's not suitable for the less mobile. I'm not so agile now but taken slowly the steps outside & inside the hotel are not a problem. Access to the beach is down through the hotel grounds & you go downhill from the hotel to walk into Hersonissos. Unfortunately you have to come back up from either the beach or town & it can be difficult in the heat. Taxis are inexpensive & save you from panting up that hill & getting all hot & bothered!! It is advised by the tour operators & by notices within the hotel that formal dress is required at dinner. Over the last couple of years I have noticed that many guests, both male & female, flout this rule & the Maitre'D can only do so much by asking those not dressed correctly to do so. After a day by a pool I like nothing better than dressing for dinner & I hope this situation can be put right soon. If you trawl through reviews you will find I've reviewed this hotel twice in recent years but I wanted to reiterate how much I love it there & if you visit, I hope you do as well.More
