An introduction to Mare Apartments

Nestled next to the clear and inviting waters of Mirabello Bay, the Mare Apartments are in the harbour area within walking distance of the local amenities. All forty apartments are tastefully furnished in a Mediterranean style and have either one or two bedrooms, lounge, dining area and a fully equipped kitchenette, balcony and air-conditioning.

One of the prettiest towns in Crete, Agios Nikalaos draws comparisons with St Tropez in France. Set in the Gulf Of Mirabello, in the harbour area, it is connected by a small canal to the deep Voulismeni lake. From the town of Elounda, on the lake, you can see the underwater ancient site of Olous with its temples of Zeus and Artemis on a clear day.

Elounda is blessed with beautiful sandy coves and boats can be rented for a trip to see Spinalonga, the peninsula where the Venetians built an impregnable fortress in 1579 and made it an island by cutting a canal. In later years, it was used as a leper colony, until as recently as the 1950s.

Activities

Guests have use of the facilities at the sister hotel, the Miramare, 30 minutes walk away. If you are feeling particularly sporty there is table tennis, pool, darts and tennis.

Location

The Mare apartments overlook a man-made shingle beach and you are just 20m from the sea. The nearest restaurants are 50m away and the closest cafes and bars are another 50m on. It is a 150m walk to get your groceries at the supermarket. The resort centre is 300m from the apartments and the nearest nightclub, disco and pub are a further 200m away. The main bus station is a 25 minute walk away, where buses leave hourly to most sites.
