An introduction to Kourouni Villa
The winding roads that lead to the Kourouni Villa are not for the faint hearted, but the views and the tranquility will suit most. Built in contemporary Cretan style, the villa is set on the pinnacle of a hill overlooking Pano Stalos and the whole of Chania in the distance. Once used by the resistance to fend off the advancing German troops, many spent cartridges have been found embedded in the rock.
Although the location of the Kourouni Villa sounds remote, Chania is only a 20 minute drive away. Omalos is the start of the spectacular Samaria Gorge and is easily reached by car and the fishing village of Kolymbari, Elafonissi Beach and the war cemetery in Souda Bay are all within easy reach. And after all the sightseeing, you can return to your own oasis in the hills. For an evening out, there are tavernas in Pano Stalos serving local dishes and in the other resorts in the area there is a greater choice of different cuisines.
