St Nicholas House

in Dassia , Corfu

“This place is a real looker, marrying up some classic Mediterranean touches with a cool and contemporary feel.”
Arriving here, it’s hard not to suppress a contented ‘ohh’. Because this villa tackles that tricky traditional-meets-new hurdle with aplomb. Exposed beams, local stone and wrought iron balustrades are mixed with contemporary furnishings and mod-cons.
Great for extended families in need of space, this place is spread over three levels and is like two homes rolled into one. On the ground floor you've got two bedrooms, a bathroom and a self-contained lounge and kitchen. Head up to the first floor and you'll find the main living room-kitchen-dining area, along with a double bedroom and bathroom. Up on the second floor, meanwhile, there's a large bathroom with a glamorous corner bath and twin basins, not to mention the master bedroom with its elevated double bed. There's also a twin bedroom on this floor, styled very much with children in mind, which connects to a dayroom with video and board games.
Décor-wise the villa's simple and uncomplicated with a touch of cool Mediterranean style - terracotta tiled floors and muslin drapes complement the buttermilk yellow and mint green walls. It's well kitted out too, with a microwave, dishwasher, DVD player and air-conditioning.
As to the location, the villa is tucked in a green and peaceful corner, cocooned by cypress, walnut and olive trees. Plus, it’s only about a five minute walk down to the Blue Flag-winning St Nicholas Beach - so you’ll be smoothing on the suncream in no time. Of course, you may just want to stay put and relax by your private pool. And the generous terrace is the perfect spot for meals en masse. All in all, this is a delightful property that’s just the ticket if you've got the family or a large group of friends in tow.

Your guide to Dassia, Corfu

“A sun-loving, fun-loving mix of lazy days on the beach finished with enjoyable nightlife, Dassia is today’s Corfu at its best.”

Fun-loving beach holidays are what Dassia’s all about. Situated a few miles north of Corfu Town, it’s a popular, spread-out resort, whose focal point is an excellent shingle beach with to-die-for views.
By day, the purpose of life here is to lounge in the sun, taking intermittent swims in the calm waters. When the midday heat approaches, retire to the shade cast by the leafy olive trees bordering the length of the beach. Armed with a coolbag of fresh bread, feta, tomatoes and some still-cold drinks, you’ll have your own private picnicking spot. When you can work up some energy, take to a wooden jetty to plunge into the deep waters, or try your hand at the many watersports plied here. A hotspot for white-knuckle versions like parascending and waterskiing, Dassia offers something wet and wild. And when you’re finally ready for something different, try a pony-trek inland to sample old Corfu, or hire your own boat to seek out a deserted nearby cove.
Back home, end the day on the beachfront road over a meal of spicy pastitsada or fish cooked in garlic at a sociable taverna. Afterwards, time a round of Metaxas for when the sun sets in the horizon. If you’re up for a late night, Dassia offers plenty of music spots to keep you from your bed. And if you want to crank up the pace – the party-loving resort of Ipsos is just a cab ride away.
