The Corfu Palace has arguably the best position in Corfu Town. Overlooking picturesque Garitsa Bay and set back from the waterfront in private gardens, it walks that difficult line between peaceful and convenient. You’ve got spectacular sea views from its front terraces, peaceful hideaways in its gardens, and the cobbled lanes of Corfu old town just a five-minute walk away along the esplanade.

The hotel’s got a tangible sense of grandeur, too. Step through the portico entrance and you’re greeted with a foyer replete with potted palms, gold pillars and a sweeping marble staircase. As for the rooms, expect the same formal elegance with pretty bedroom chairs and floral drapes teamed with parquet wood floors or carpets. Mod-cons, meanwhile, come in the form of air-conditioning, satellite TVs and minibars. Balconies or terraces with sea views complete the picture.

The main restaurant has the same vintage elegance. Looking out through the palms to the sea, it’s dressed in pale lemons, with Louis XV-style dining chairs and starched white table linen. The lavish buffet breakfasts here are the subject of particular praise from guests. Dinner is equally impressive. Bow-tied waiters serve set international menus in the handsome dining room or outside on the terrace overlooking the twinkling lights of Garitsa. Summer sees grand weekly barbecues beside the pool, too, with Greek dancing adding a flourish to the proceedings.
