Guide to Aghios Gordios

'The classic Greek holiday. Aghios Gordios offers a great combination of stunning scenery, sandy beach and lively tavernas, all in one.'

For scenery, Aghios Gordios is hard to beat. Tucked beneath pine-clad hills on the western shores of Corfu, this is prime postcard territory.
Far be it from us to tell you how to spend your time here, but the beach should top your holiday agenda. Sweeping between two steep, forested headlands, it's like a big welcome mat of sunny sands and pebbles. But if you're a sun and surf-lover, resisting its charms is not easy – just kick off your shoes and dive straight in. And if you can manage the time, grab a snorkel and head for the Ortholith, Aghios Gordios' most famous landmark. This giant offshore rock's a magnet for exotic underwater life. Alternatively, let your inner daredevil loose with a skydiving session.
Once you've worked up an appetite, wander along the seafront or main street to check out the friendly tavernas and bars. Try the local speciality of squid stuffed with bacon, cheese and garlic, or freshly grilled sardines, still spitting from the barbecue. Believe us, they'll taste even better with an ice-cold beer.
Although Aghios has its own Greek charm, you'll find of lots of places nearby offering a stronger dose of traditional life. Climb the twisting road to Sinarades to mosey round its warren of houses and tavernas or wander around its flowery lanes that seem to be stuck in time.
Whatever the day brings, return home in time to watch the magnificent sunset. Then settle into a taverna for a supper serenaded by soothing bouzoukis.

However, around the beach it can get quite busy and there are plenty of opportunities for amusement throughout the resort. These include watersports, walking in the stunning hills and even sky diving. The finer things in life are all on offer here too - the local food and a cold glass of 'retzina' - white wine flavoured with pine resin - will delight your tastebuds. The chefs of Aghios Gordios are renowned for using fresh, local produce and for inventive dishes. Don't worry about children being bored - aside from the sea-based fun - there is a water park nearby and plenty of excursions aimed at younger visitors.
