An introduction to Villa Bastelica

Luxury is a dangerous term, meaning different things to different people. To us it means a beautifully designed and decorated house with wonderful views and, of course, its own swimming pool. If these are your criteria too then Villa Bastelica is your ideal; yet in a way it is simple, not luxurious, because the floors are of terracotta rather than deep-pile carpet and the decor is pretty and creative rather than ostentatious. Villa Bastelica is richest in the use of light and space - it is wonderfully airy and has numerous picture windows opening on to the outside terraces. The design grew from the desire to maximise on the beautiful views and to combine plenty of space with ease of running. The villa curves naturally around the superb pool, its crowning glory.
Villa Bastelica's ambience derives from split-levels, sloping and raftered ceilings and the clever use of colour against an essentially white background. Wherever you look there is a beautiful view and whatever the time of day, there is always a choice between a shaded and a sunny terrace. The villa is relatively secluded yet is not isolated, situated below the hamlet of Bocca di l'Oru (which has an excellent pizzeria-grill), just a 10-15 minute drive from Porto Vecchio and 5-10 minutes' drive from some of the best beaches in Corsica.

This highly original villa is suitable for families and larger groups, or for couples, as in essence it comprises two wings, connected by a 'summer room' equipped with a fridge and comfy seats. One wing has a lounge area with windows overlooking the pool and the hills to the sea, a dining area and an open plan kitchen with fridge, freezer with ice cube maker, dishwasher, small oven, microwave, hob and coffee-maker.
A curving staircase leads from the living area to the master suite, which has a double bedroom with king-size bed and a private balcony with sea view, a shower room with WC and a separate WC. The second wing has a first floor master suite comprising a double bedroom with king-size bed opening on to a private covered balcony overlooking the pool with views to the sea in the distance, a bedroom with a small bed (suitable for under 5s) and a cot, and a large bathroom with WC.
On the ground floor are two twin bedrooms, both with French windows opening on to a small private patio, one also has a sofa bed. The second shower room opens off the summer room and there is also a laundry room with washing machine and an extra fridge.
