Les Terrasses De Porra

If houses with private pools are rare in Corsica, an old farmhouse with its own pool, especially a house as sympathetically converted as the Terrasses de Porra, is an exception. Cosily ensconced amongst olive trees, oaks and mulberries, under the crest of a hill, this 150-year old house possesses that comforting sense of permanence which pervades much of Corsica. Inside, the house is given its traditional character by lovely wooden beams, warm terracotta tiles, stripped floorboards and farmhouse furniture. The attic floor is especially charming, with its sloping ceiling, skylights and quaint low windows through which the sea can be spied. In the garden in front of the house is an attractive swimming pool flanked by a rockery and a paved sunbathing area; there is also a dining area in the shade of an olive tree. The owner looks after the pool and lives close by.

The glorious beach of Cala di la Folaca - like adjacent Palombaggia, a Caribbean image of white sand and turquoise water - can be reached in a matter of minutes by car. A host of other beaches, including Palombaggia, as well as the mountains of Ospedale and the picturesque towns of Bonifacio and Porto Vecchio are all within easy reach.
