In the Nebbiu is the only limestone outcrop - apart from Bonifacio - in Corsica, making soil conditions ideal for vines. No less than 20 vineyards around the village of Patrimonio, a 5-minute drive from St Florent, boast an Appellation d'Origine Controlee. The area produces the best wine in Corsica. Throughout the summer the caves of Patrimonio are open for wine-tasting and there is no more economical way of stocking up the cellar than buying directly from the vineyards.

Patrimonio's distinctive 13th-century church is illuminated to stunning effect at night. The village has a bakers and a small shop, and for a supermarket and choice of restaurants St Florent is only a ten-minute drive.
