The Ferayola is a completely rural and thoroughly remote escape for those who want to evade modern hubbub and enjoy simple comfort, genuine hospitality and good, authentic food amidst the sights, sounds and scents of nature: water tinkling from a fountain, a breeze whispering in the trees, bees humming in the lavender, sunlight sparkling on the sea and the aroma of myrtle and thyme wafting in from the surrounding maquis.
This adorable little Auberge of only ten rooms is set on a hillside entirely on its own, in geranium-filled terraced gardens amongst a grove of pines and eucalyptus, a 20-minute or so drive from the Fango River and Galeria. Calvi is only 25km away but the corniche road is so winding - and stunningly beautiful - that average driving speed is under 40kmph.
The sea-facing rooms, in a separate building further uphill from the restaurant, have private balconies and the advantage of having both a bath and a separate WC; the garden view rooms have shower rooms and do not have a balcony. There is a lovely pool and sunbathing area, plus a tennis court. The impressive beach of Argentella is under 2km away and in whichever direction the road is taken from Ferayola, the views over this wild and indented coast are spectacular. Splendid too is the view over the sea - especially at sunset - from the terrace of the restaurant where guests enjoy both the delicious cooking and the warm, attentive welcome from the charming owners - Jean and his wife, Marie-Noelle. The Ferayola is for those who want a truly quiet life with peace, time and beauty to recharge batteries worn down by the daily grind.
