Hotel Dominique Colonna

With the crags of the Restonica gorge peeking above a canopy of pines high overhead, the Hotel Dominique Colonna enjoys a site which captures the essence of Corsica's heart. The Dominique Colonna is a mountain hotel of comfort with access to a splendid swimming pool at a neighbouring auberge and a fine restaurant. Staying at the Dominique Colonna one can push one's resources to the limit by hiking all day through spectacular landscapes, knowing that a refreshing swim in the pool, a room and bathroom of three-star standards, and a tempting and extensive menu featuring Corsican specialities are the reward at the end of the day. And for those on a longish stay, there's nothing better after a couple of days' exertions than spending a whole day reading on the lovely terrace above the river, or lounging by the pool (which is usually open from the beginning of June to late September).

In response to the demand from their ever-growing number of faithful clients, the owners of the Dominique Colonna have built their very own pool, with a small paddling pool for children and heating. The hotel, being just at the beginning of the gorge, is only a couple of kilometres from Corte, Corsica's acknowledged mountain capital and only university town. From Corte one can take the island's little mountain train to Ajaccio, Bastia or Calvi, whilst by car, day trips can be made not only to these destinations but also to almost all the astounding regions of the northern half of the island: the Asco valley and Monte Cinto, Corsica's highest peak; the hidden valleys and near-deserted villages of the Castagniccia; the glorious Balagne.

The friendly hotel staff can provide information on walking and horse-riding, and if required they can arrange a mountain guide or trout fishing, though guests need to bring their own rods.
