A Vigna Vecchia 2

At the end of Campo Moro beach is a pretty mulberry-lined lane fringed by a string of picturesque stone cottages. Here is the quay to which are moored Campo Moro's handful of fishing boats, including that of Alain Ettori, a third generation fisherman. A hundred yards up the hill behind the beach, a seaside restaurant and shop, Alain built A Vigna Vecchia in his grandfather's former vineyard, although no signs remain of his grandfather's wine interest, with Alain preferring to concentrate on fishing. Alain lives on the first floor and keeps the lobsters he catches in a 'vivier' (lobster tank) of which he is extremely proud; so if you want to barbecue lobster it couldn't be fresher. He is friendly though always respectful of his guests' privacy. On the ground floor are two two-bedroom apartments which enjoy a superb view over the bay and up the Valinco Gulf to the distant mountains. Large, neighbouring patios and big picture windows make the most of this splendid panorama, with shrubs and flowers perfectly framing the view. The apartments are roomy (no. 1 is considerably larger than no. 2) and furnished with attractive pine furniture and tiled floors. Campo Moro's excellent sandy beach is only 2-3 minutes below on foot, as are the little rock pools which are such a pleasure to fish in.
