An introduction to Hotel La Villa

World class hotels are rare in Corsica so we are delighted to feature the superlative La Villa in Calvi. La Villa's owner, Jean Pierre Pinelli, is a man of many talents, an interior designer-hotelier-restaurateur who has created a hotel whose decor is a stunning mix of classical and modern and whose service and cuisine is inimitable.
La Villa is aptly named for its beautiful design is that of a Roman villa overlaid with elements of a Corsican monastery, with arcades to frame the splendid views, quiet cloisters, luminous mosaics and hand-made terracotta tiles. The comforts are voluptuously Roman as, among other luxuries, there are four pools. The air-conditioned bedrooms are spacious and delightfully decorated in shades of lemon, coral or jade. All have king-sized beds and a private balcony or patio, dining table and chairs, a dressing room with safe and minibar, a separate WC, a luxuriously equipped bathroom and TV with channels in English.

Excellent food at the Michelin starred restaurant and polished presentation, whether in the dining room, on the terrace or via room service, come naturally; the wine list is select and the cooking is refined and imaginative to match. For relaxation there are four stylish salons, an elegant bar, carefully groomed gardens, a tennis court, gym, massage room, beauty room, Turkish bath and the gorgeous outdoor swimming pools, two of which are heated. The piece de resistance is the main pool whose turquoise horizon blends into the stunning view over Calvi and the bay so that, when swimming, the citadel and the mountains appear to hover over the water.

Within a 20-minute downhill walk below the hotel is the centre of Calvi with its fashionable boutiques and, facing the swish yachts moored in the harbour, dozens of restaurants and cafes where the pleasure is almost as much in seeing and being seen as in eating and drinking.
As Calvi has some of the most reputed restaurants on the island, gourmets are excellently catered for. The beach, where a special section is reserved for La Villa's guests (with towels, parasols and sunloungers provided) and which offers numerous watersports facilities, is equally close, as is the marina.
A car is not absolutely essential for guests staying at La Villa but we imagine that those with sufficient discrimination to choose to stay in such exclusive surroundings will elect to have their own transport for at least part of their stay.
