If the ancient limestone cliffs of Bonifacio could talk, they might whisper to you stories of Laestrygonians hurling boulders down on to Ulysses' fleet, of Greek, Roman, Genoese, Aragonese and French marauders or of Boniface, Marquis of Tuscany, from whom the town's name is taken. Though not as ancient as the cliffs, this centrally-located apartment has seen some history of its own, for the Italian Salineri family lived here from around 1670 to 1750 and held important positions amongst the Bonifacio elite as vice consul of France, judges and priests. After the family left Corsica, the house was turned into a post office and remained as such until it was recently renovated into lovely apartments of which we are offering the third floor with delightful views over the cosmopolitan port.
The apartment is stylishly furnished with tiled floors, whitewashed walls, muted colours and comfortable soft furnishings. The double bedroom's wood-beamed ceilings are a beautiful, classic feature recalling the history of this building. Bonifacio's myriad delights are easily enjoyed from Salineri's site in the old town.
