Hotel Alexander the Great Beach

A beachside spot, an infinity pool and a new entertainment venue are the big draws at this recently refurbished hotel.

This hotel has one of the best postcodes in Paphos. It’s right by a sandy, Blue Flag beach, and just a 5-minute walk from the shops, bars and restaurants in the stylish harbour.

Following a big refurb in 2013, the hotel now has an infinity pool with a swim-up bar. Rooms had a makeover, too, and feature things like Smart TVs. Five restaurants – including a stylish Japanese – complete the scene.

Positives and Negatives

Positives........ok, it is a nice hotel in a very convenient location for walking into Paphos town along a lovely promenade next to the sea. Generally it is a very clean and welcoming hotel BUT there is a cleanliness issue which we will come onto shortly. Keeping with the positives for now though......the sunbed allocation is an excellent idea. Chat to one of the pool attendants on your first day and choose a sunbed near to the pool or near to the sea view and that sun bed is then yours exclusively for the rest of your stay. We stayed on a bed and breakfast deal and the breakfast food is nice enough. A tip from us would be to NOT stay on a half-board basis as there are so many other lovely restaurants to try in Paphos. You would miss out on some lovely places to eat if you tie yourself to the hotel restaurant every evening. Negative mentioned by some other reviewers the rooms in the hotel are either sea view or not sea view. A tip from us would be to ONLY book a sea view room. The other rooms are next to car parks and even worse.....most of the rooms that do not face the sea, are instead facing the busy noisy road that goes into Paphos town. Not much the Hotel can do about that because of where it is sited but don't get drawn into the hype of some of the comments on this site who for some reason won't hear a word against this hotel. If you have a road facing room, it WILL be noisy at nights with some of the local Paphos youths racing their cars on the road at nights. Another big negative we found is linked to the cleanliness issue referred to earlier. There are cats everywhere! Possibly something the mainly elderly clientele like to see but come you want to eat breakfast with stray cats under your table rubbing against your legs begging for food or go to your sun lounger to see a cat asleep on it? Maybe some folks don't mind that but after a week of having noisy cats meowing at nights in the ground floor corridor we were staying on.....we were thankful to go home for a full night's sleep! You can make a 3am call to Reception to ask them to chase the cats out of the corridor (and to be fair they will have a go at that for you) but the pesky cats know how to get back in! So.....a nice hotel (quite expensive though) in an excellent location with many positives but it's a place that is mainly aimed at the more mature travellers and the road noise and the cats would probably put us off returning here.More

Still Great.

This hotel continues to excel. The staff as always are wonderfully attentive. The entertainment has changed this year in that the teams from the ATG and Olympic Lagoon interchange between the two hotels performing shows. Personally I think this is an improvement. All the Kanika Allstars work so hard and put on such professional performances. It's lovely to see so many of them returning again this year. I'd like to say congratulations to Shawn Cresswell who has gained so much confidence, his stage presence is awesome, I love watching him. I do have one niggle and that is the time of the happy hour in the Alexander's bar (5-6pm) being this early it nearly always coincides with the weddings at the hotel, because of this it is very hard to get served as the wedding party take over the bar and also the sun terrace, therefore people are unable to sit outside until they leave. Please could this be looked at and consider moving happy hour to 5.30-6.30pm. More

Lizzy D,

Beautiful Hotel

We stayed in room 148, we were happy with this room. We had a small balcony which overlooked the car park at the front of the Hotel. We anticipated noise but it was fine. The bed was extremely comfortable and was super king size. You can choose your sun beds when you arrive and then they are yours for the duration of your stay. It is advisable to book the Greek, Italian and Asian restaurants as soon as you get there or before if you can as they soon get booked up. My brother got married at the Hotel and it was a fantastic setting and everything went smoothly. If I had to make any criticism it would be that new towels are needed for the sun beds and some of the carpets look a bit tired. The staff are all very friendly and the food is excellent.More

Another Great Holiday

My partner and I visited The Alexander the Great Hotel in Paphos for the 3rd time in 18 months. Once again, a wonderful holiday, looked after by first class staff. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they will go the extra mile to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. For instance, on our previous visits, we tended to drink a specific wine, but on checking the wine list, it was no longer offered. However the bar manager, George, went out of his way to order it in especially for us. The room was amazing and we had beautiful views over the pool, terracing and out to the sea. We would just like to thank our chambermaid, who worked around us getting back from breakfast or shopping before completing our room. Bar staff, Vladimiros, Natalie and Kyrygos. Ever attentive and prepared to hold a conversation with you. Waiting staff Charris (thank you for letting us have some of your birthday cake) Ala and Dimitry. ( I hope this is the correct spelling). Meal times were a very pleasant experience and we were allowed time to rest between courses. Restaurant Managers, Paula in the Garribaldi Italian restaurant and Raj in the 7 Orchids who are both excellent at their jobs and treat us like royalty. The 7 Orchids has been changed from a Japanese to a Pan Asian offering a greater choice of menu, with great quality very tasty food. As I said 3 visits in 18 months and I am sure we will be back. A number of the people staying here have re visited again and again which is testimony to it's quality. Thanks again to all staff and management for making our holiday first class. Ian and Cheryl.
