Hotel Alexander the Great Beach

A beachside spot, an infinity pool and a new entertainment venue are the big draws at this recently refurbished hotel.

This hotel has one of the best postcodes in Paphos. It’s right by a sandy, Blue Flag beach, and just a 5-minute walk from the shops, bars and restaurants in the stylish harbour.

Following a big refurb in 2013, the hotel now has an infinity pool with a swim-up bar. Rooms had a makeover, too, and feature things like Smart TVs. Six restaurants – including a stylish Japanese – complete the scene.

Great by name Great by Standard

Sometimes the little touches go the furthest to enhance a stay in a hotel and the Alexander the Great certainly meets that criteria - personally for me it was the staff friendliness and attitude that made the stay, you felt welcome and that is important ! Everything about the hotel met the expectations especially the cleanliness and quality of food, this hotel receives many (well deserved reviews) and rather than repeat what others say I can only agree with other positive comments, definately somewhere I will return to.More

A real 4* hotel!

I've stayed in a number of hotels which claim to be 4* over the years, but most either have poor-average food, basic rooms or boring leisure facilities. The ATG Hotel was a please to visit, and we were impressed by the way that despite being a large hotel the staff knew us. The food was varied and the wine waiter could actually remember out choice of drinks from previous evenings:) We will return!More

Tried hard but couldn't find fault with this hotel. It really is GREAT!

We have just returned from an 8 day break at the Alexander The Great Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus. Great by name and really lives up to its name by being a truly great place to stay. We had a room with a sea view and it was worth the extra few pounds. The bedroom was beautifully appointed with high end white cotton bed linen and towels, quality toiletries and a bed that was more comfortable than our own at home! The decor was very tasteful and echoed the hotel's beachside position with gentle neutral shades and elegant turquoise curtains and comfy easy chair. For people who need a TV, this was a very 'smart' smart TV with built in computer. Wi-fi is free in the hotel and has a very good signal too. Very good lighting with ample mirrors, perfect for applying makeup and a good hair-dryer for dealing with hair. Plenty of powerpoint most of which are UK three pin. There is plenty of hanging space with good hangers and masses of drawer space too. The balcony was big enough for two chairs and a table and had (almost chest high) safety glass to keep children safe. The bathroom was compact with loo, washbasin in a vanity unit, with a large cupboard for more storage an cubby holes for sponge bags etc. Power points for shaver and toothbrush. Lovely fluffy white towels all a very generous size and changed as often as you want/need. There are also big swimming towels to take down to the pools. Fabulous shower with huge shower head like it's raining and also what I really liked was an additional shower for those wanting to wash their hair without getting into the shower. Another smart touch was the lighting in the bathroom. Lights are operated by inserting your keycard into the slot just inside the main door to your room. The bathroom lights include a blue beam positioned to guide you from the bedroom into the bathroom without waking up your partner. Brilliant!! There is no outside window in the bathroom so here, there is another very clever touch. There is a window between the bedroom and bathroom with has an electric blind encased in the glass. Simply press the button on the wall to operate the up/down of the blind to determine the amount of privacy you require at certain times. We left it down all the time - let face it most hotels don't have a window at all!!! There is a well stocked mini bar and one can use the fridge for storing a few of your own personal items. There is also a well stocked selection of tea/coffee/milk for you to make your own tea. Its also possible to bring some fresh milk and keep it in the fridge. There is a very good personal safe situated in the wardrobe which requires six figures to set it (extra security). Plenty of lifts operate close by and are quick and efficient. Dining: Breakfast is perfect and has every choice of foods no matter what your taste. The hot foods are hot and eggs cooked to your choice while you wait. A huge selection of foods and drinks. The waiters are very efficient and charming. Lunchtime buffet: A vast selection of food from salads, meze and many hot dishes too. Evening: Themes for the Buffet meals change daily. Once again I cannot begin to describe the array of foods to suit all palates. Plenty of fish, meats and vegetarian dishes and puddings to die for. Japanese restaurant: There is a Japanese restaurant and those of half board can choose to eat there as part of their deal. I so recommend it. We had a fantastic meal! Italian restaurant: As above; once can eat there once during a week's stay. Or, with these two restaurants you can pay to eat there if you so choose. Wines: I can only speak from experience and we were 'half board'. Your evening meal includes a large bottle of water and also a glass of 'house wine'. There is also an alternative wine list for 'wine buffs'. The sommelier is very helpful and knowledgable. All dining room staff are charming and fun to speak with. All public areas of this hotel have beautiful, imaginative flower arrangements and very nice artwork. There are plenty of sofas and places to relax and read. Outside the swimming area is wonderful. My suggestion is that you go to the pool attendant and tell him whether you want a sun-bed in the sun or shade. You choose which you prefer and the sun-bed is then allocated to your room number for the duration of your stay. This is such a simple and fantastic idea - why don't all hotels, cruise ships etc do this!!!!! The outdoor pools were not warm enough for us to swim (18 degrees - brrr) although there were some hardy swimmers - not many though. The pool is huge and fantastic and you have a choice of several pools! The indoor pool was one of the most gorgeous I have every swum in. Plenty of room to plough up and down (same length as our local pool) and a lovely temperature. As it was windy outside we sat inside after a good swim; the sun was warm and beaming straight onto the sun-beds. Fabulous! There is also a sauna, steam room and spa however I didn't use them so can't comment further. There was evening entertainment and dancing so I gather but we didn't see/hear it so cannot comment. The Receptionists are hugely helpful and eager to ensure you have the best time and the Guest Relations Manager is there to help if you have a problem. She is extremely good very friendly and efficient. She is English although I believe she speaks other languages too. There is lots to do locally and many tours to take. If you are into 'rocks and rubble' you will be in heaven here; there are many interesting ruins right on your doorstep. Beautiful flora and wonderful birds to see including the Hoopoe and Falcons. We had such a good time at the ATG we will certainly return next year but we will try to fly into Paphos airport to avoid the two hour journey from Larnaca. I hope this is helpful.More

Well worth a visit

Just back from a week at ATG wish it could have been longer! Beautiful hotel and position. The staff were so friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was full and many people had visited many times and others had tried other hotels in the resort and Said ATG was the best.. Quite a lot of golfers too. Hopefully I will be back !More
