Nice pool let down by accomodation
We have just returned from the Pagona and overall had a lovely stay there were just a few points that let the place down. Having read reviews previously I was fully aware the accommodation was basic and may need a little revamp and fully prepared for that however what i wasn't prepared for was what can only be described as a grubby bathroom the floor was dirty especially around the edge and corners the enamel on the bath and worn away making showering quite slippy and difficult made only worse by the shower curtain that stuck to you as the bath was so narrow! The living area for the 1 bedroom apartment had crumbs and sweet wrappers from the previous guests on the floor and under the sofa which remained there till we left and also hair dust balls - not great really The pool area is what makes the hotel but as mentioned in a earlier review by a previous guest (who i had messaged) the pool makes any light or white swimwear turn a greenish colour - as i was prepared for this i didn't take any new swimwear but just a thought to keep in mind. The last gripe came around day 2 when we decided to get air con - the lady behind reception was helpful on arranging this for us at a cost of around 80 Euros once we had paid my partner brought up the matter of the cleanliness of the room at which point she informed us that she didn't speak very good English and if we put any rubbish in the bin the cleaners would take it - make of that as you will! I did hear other quests around the pool mention the same issues regarding the apartment and complex mainly the blocks around the pool from what i can gather the new blocks opposite seem to be in a better state. Overall the staff around the bar were helpful, pleasant and we really appreciated the pool service the food we had was also nice, the location is really good for walking to the harbor and local sites. It was our first time in Cypus and we totally loved it, we will be returning to explore further but sadly not at the Pagona which is a shame but we just feel we could of spent what we did including the cost of the air con somewhere slightly better.More
A great hotel with fantastic pool and bar
We stayed at Pagona Hotel Apartments in September 2017 with a 3 year old for a week. Around a 30 minute bus ride from the airport (€1.50 for adults and free for children) and then a 10 minute walk to the hotel. The hotel has a fantastic pool one of the main reasons we chose it and can confirm it lived up to expectations the little one spent the majority of the week in the pool which we all loved and we also spent lots of time relaxing on the many sun loungers around the pool. Cyprus is still very nice and hot into September! The apartment itself was comfortable but basic with no double beds just two singles in both rooms. It was clean and spacious with plenty of clean towels, basic cooking utensils and was cleaned daily. Air conditioning was included for our stay contrary to what itches have posted but maybe one to check when booking. There was a vey reasonably priced poolside bar/restaurant which we had drinks at most days (just €2-3 for a beer) and ate at several times and the food was good value and tasty. The staff were great and very welcoming and friendly. The are was quiet with not much directly nearby but a couple of decent restaurants and bars not far away (would recommend Picnic restaurant on the corner, great meat) and just a 10 minute walk to the shops and bars along the front with brilliant swimming possible from the front where there are steps down to get daily into the warm, clear water. Overall a great stay in a nice little hotel and with easy access to all of Paphos' amenities and attractions. More
Pagona Appts Cyprus.
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the Pagona. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The apartments are functional and it is possible to prepare basic meals. We however, decided to eat in the pool bar with the food being well prepared. I particularly enjoyed the Stifardo which is a local dish, it was delicious. The pool is ideal and we never had a problem getting a sun bed (I hate people going out early to bag the best ones with a towel) then leaving them for hours). I will return again and highly recommend the Pagona. More
Lovely pool area
Pool area was lovely with plenty of sunbeds & umbrellas. Studio apartment was spacious although it was basic & could do with a lick of paint with kitchen & bathroom needing an upgrade. A few broken items (staff replaced these without any bother) & fridge wasn't great, everything froze up too much as the icebox had no door. Had a full size oven but would be better with a microwave as I just wanted to heat up a few items. Staff were very pleasant. Although it was only 20 minutes walk to harbour it felt longer walking back up in the middle of the heat of the day.More
Not what we expected
Recently returned from a two week stay at the Pagona apartments- Was our first time in Paphos. We arrived late and were surprised to be asked to pay 6euros per night for air conditioning (which was essential given the temp). Was also strange that safe deposit boxes were held at reception (10 euro charge per week). We found this fairly inconvenient as it meant us visiting reception ( which is not accessible 24 hours) a couple of times a day minimum. Room- generally very dated and basic. Cooker, fridge, toaster and kettle were in the room. No TV in room. Air con in bedroom only which meant lounge was too hot to sit in. Ants visible in room on a daily basis. Lack of warm water in room for showering. Room cleanliness was very poor , balcony not cleaned in entire fortnight & we resorted to cleaning ourselves. Towels changed every 3 days. Balcony nice and spacious overlooking pool which was good. The pool area was the best area of the hotel in our opinion. Plenty of sunbeds were available. We didn't see the pool get cleaned during our stay, and there was grit and dirt visible on the bottom of the pool. Hotel strictly forbids anyone taking water and food around the pool area in an attempt to almost force guests into purchasing food and drinks at the pool bar, which we thought was ridiculous given that you couldn't take a drink of water without being stared at by the pool bar staff. Pool bar staff constantly pester you asking if you would like to purchase drinks when laid by the pool. Staff seemed to speak to those that spent money in the bar and were very unsociable to those that preferred not to use the bar. We got the impression that this family run apartments is massively motivated by money and that there is a lack of genuine care for guests. We would visit Paphos again but would avoid this hotel as it wasn't particularly cheap, and it seems like there is a lack of concern for the poor standards. More
