The Sunrise Beach Hotel’s best bits include an on-the-beach setting and a handy sunbed allocation system.
Thanks to its beachfront position, you can flip-flop between the hotel’s pool and the sea in a few steps. Protaras’ main strip isn’t much further away, where you’ll find a clutch of authentic tavernas.
One of the hotel’s big draws is its dine-around programme. It means you can have dinner in a choice of restaurants in the area, which serve the likes of American, Asian, Italian and Greek cuisine.
You'll find the restaurant in front of the hotel where you'll come across a large terrace that you can dine on. The kitchen is open for you to see meals being freshly made. Expect authentic recipes such as pastas, risotto, pizzas being made in the wood fire oven and a fine wine list. You'll need to book a table in advance here, bookings are limited to one reservation per week. Highchairs are available.

Fantastic hotel, great location and excellent staff
Stayed 12-19th April 2015. From arrival to departure could not fault the hotel. Very clean and well presented in all areas, the maids appear to work 24/7, but never get in the way. All staff are very friendly & polite and cannot do enough to help.
The restaurants offer a wide range of food & drinks, and the booking system means you are guaranteed a table.
Location is great, on the beach and in the middle of the main Protaras strip. 15 mins from Ayia Napa and Paralimni.
We went as a couple, there were some families/children there but I would say the hotel is more aimed at adults, there is some daytime activities for kids, but eating may be a problem as the food is more aimed towards adults.
The resort of Protaras is lovely, although not much of it opens until the end of April. It is quite pricey to eat/drink out compared to a lot of other places. An evening 3 course meal for 2 was averaging 50 euros with a coupe of drinks each. Pint of beer was 3.5 euros.
Plenty to do, from watersports on the beach, to day trips/excursions, or jumping on the bus to nearby resorts/towns.
We would definitely recommend the Sunrise Beach Hotel and Protaras resort, and will no doubt revisit at some point. As already said more for adults than families.More
One of our best holidays⦠if you are on the right half of the hotel !
The Sunrise Beach hotel is one of the best âpackage holidayâ hotels we have been to and definitely deserves its good ratings on Trip Advisor. Some key details:
1. It is spread over five accommodation floors in a T shape with most rooms either having direct sea views or decent side views (but not all so if you donât pay the upgrade you may well have an uninspiring inside view !).
⢠The complex has a its own shop â only small but handy for forgotten last minute items / newspapers and inflatables
⢠Kids club located in the sister hotel next door. Not overly busy but decent facilities
⢠Hotel does provide beach towels [no deposit needed] - and you reserve your beds for the duration â GREAT idea !
⢠TIP â The pool attendant will help you pick which beds youâd like and help you to then change if you are unhappy with your spot. We moved and ended up with really good beds by the main pool
⢠There is also a sports area that includes a gym. Also a squash court. Only made it there once but was fun !
⢠You can get spa treatments â but their spa facility is at another hotel a little further along the coast.
⢠There is FREE internet access all over the hotel [VERY big plus with the kids !). Watching films was a bit more challenging (streaming issues) but fine for social media / net usage etc.
⢠The drinks work out a tad expensive and the absence of an AI option means that this can add a fair bit to your bill if you are staying around the hotel.
Protaras is a big enough resort to get reasonable choice of restaurants / shops â without being too big (it is not a Play de las Americas).
ROOM TIP - That said â IF you are on the wrong side of the hotel Iâm afraid youâll be subjected to Karaoke from Rives bar on the Strip until about 01:30 (and we wereâ¦). HOWEVER â literally being on the other side meant you couldnât really hear it. The noisy part is the very top of the T shaped hotel â good luck ! We are still very likely to go back â but this was likely our biggest complaint â which is obviously hard for the hotel to deal withâ¦.
The beach is a good one â It wasnât being used much while we were there but judging by the number of beds being laid out I think it will be popular (2 beds and a brolly for 7.5E per day)
Lots of Water Sports providers along the beach. We went to the one closest to the hotel and did the Jet Skiâs, UFO and Paragliding â all good fun and youâll get a deal on booking extras.
The sea was really cold for swimming but that was just time of year (April !)
The standard rooms are comfortable albeit not overly generous on space. Also a distinct lack of drawers for storage.
Only allow 3 to a room
We had a std and a Suite. Worked really well as we had interconnecting doors to open it all up.
The suites are bigger and more comfortable. The main advantage is the location of the suites â they have an amazing outlook with both a side and front balcony and a large floor to ceiling window looking right out to sea. Very nice.
We stayed on the 3rd floor â I think youâd have still had good views on the first and second but have a slight bias to 3rd / 4th or 5th. Positively we didnât get any noise problems from neighbours or from above / below.
All the rooms have air conditioning; a kettle; hairdryer; clothes dryer (on balcony); a mini bar (fridge) and a safe that is free to use.
Tip: Take coat hangers !! You get about 10 provided.
Were all really good with no issues. Especially the restaurant and bar staff â very friendly and helpful.
Thompson offers a fairly standard array of day trips to include visits to the Water Park, Boat trips, Shopping Trips etc. It didnât look like they had a great take up and we didnât bother this time around but they are on offer for those interested in seeing a bit more of the island.
The hotel is a bit smaller so the entertainment is mainly âbought inâ acts. Gerly manages the team who are all really nice and helpful and deserve a good shout out !! I enjoyed the singers they had in with the most popular act being the magician â very funny and well worth seeing !!!! Also for the younger guests â the Kids Disco each evening.
Also â Easter Egg hunts for the kids â really good fun and plenty of choc all round !
Plenty of quizâs; bingo; some exercises; French Boules; Table Tennis; Pool; Darts etc.
Main buffet restaurant; four speciality restaurants and pool snacks.
Main buffet restaurant â FANTASTIC !! We all really rated the food here. Afraid our waistlines prove the point a little too well. Great quality and superb service. Well thought out set up and didnât find ourselves in the âtussleâ you sometimes get when trying to get your food. In all we felt that the normal buffet experience was a lot more like a proper restaurant experience. Neo the manager runs a tight ship and is excellent !!
Breakfast is in the downstairs restaurant â which is also used for lunch but not as popular (guests looked to be fairly evenly split between half board and B&B â no AI making a full lunch at the hotel a bit pricey)
Lemon Grass â Asian Restaurant â bias towards Japanese food â which was no bad thing. The food was fantastic. Located just in front of the hotel. You get one meal included per week here and worth a visit. Afraid the three courses will leave you very full !
Italian Restaurant â Opposite the Asian restaurant and also very good. Again Iâd strongly recommend you take your one visit per week.
Reef Sports Bar and Grill â just next to Reception â Food was very good but a clue in the title â it is a sports bar. If you want to watch the big games then this is the place for you but wasnât my fave atmosphere.
Sea Food Restaurant â located outside of the hotel a bit down the coast. We didnât try it but heard it is very nice. If you are on HB you get a 15E allowance off your food.
It is a very wide beach with a good walk either side. A little narrow but plenty big enough for Children to have a proper play. Counts as a good beach !
The main pool area is at the back of the hotel. Split into two sections the lower section includes a swim up bar. They are a good size â BUT â similar to the sea â afraid the outdoor pools are very cold in April and were not used very much at all.
The indoor pool in only 1.2m deep â but heated so was more popular whilst we were there.
There is also a small circular baby / very young childrenâs pool â we used it a little with our youngest.
AIRPORT / TRANSFER / FLIGHT
The transfer from Lanarca is about 50 minutes. It helped that our coach was ONLY going to Sunrise Beach Hotel â if it were going to others it would no doubt extend the time !
The airport was pleasant. Quickly through on both legs. Good range of shops / eateries and two exec lounges if you have time / are inclined.
Flight there was about 4.5 hours and the return was just shy of 5 hours. Std 3 and 3 on the plane seats) with a fairly restrictive pitch.
Temperature / weather was challenging. The first week was chilly and overcast a fair bit. Temp in low teens to about 20C. Second week much better. Winds dropped with temps in high teens to mid 20âs. To be honest 18C without the winds was actually REALLY hot. Locals said weâd been unlucky so would chance another April visit.
Occasional mossie / biter. Didnât use sprays and as a group we only got a couple of small bites so wasnât a big issue.
Cleanliness â really good. Rooms cleaned daily and to a good standard. Public areas all well tended.More

There is little to fault here. Room great, food great. Staff without exception beyond helpful. One of the best hotels of its type I've stayed in. You won't find a better one in protaras.
Towel service, breakfast all excellent. Minor complaint, air con in room is not under your controlMore

One to try.......fab-u-lous!!!!
First time at this hotel, planning to ensure it is not the last......Booked just a couple of weeks before going, had a limited sea view room which was clean, functionally with a pretty good view of the ocean.
Pool area lovely, with a sun bed allocation system which avoids the problem of trying to get a bed. Ate breakfast outside overlooking the sea, breakfast has plenty of choice with well coked food. Water in the pool was pretty cold however this is to be expected in April, am guessing this would probably warm up through the season.
Used the hotle bar everynight for a night cap, bar staff really friendly, with a special mention for Andreas- superb at his job with a ready smile for all along with a glint in his eye. That said, all hotel staff were great - cant wait to book a return trip. Thank you all for a great holiday :)More

Clean and comfortable
Wow what can I say.Just got back from this hotel last week. What a lovely place to stay.We had a family room with a partial sea view. The rooms are spacious ,clean and comfy .They are well equipped including free use of a safe ( which I thought was a nice touch) a mini fridge and hair dryer.Breakfast was lovely.Good food with a lovely view.Attentive staff are on standby to ensure everything is kept tidy but not too over attentive.Sunbeds are allocated to all but get there early on first day to secure best spots The beach is a step over the boardwalk but I imagine it gets busy during the main months..Protaras strip is a short walk away with bars and restaurants to suit all.We loved Rockefellers for the sport's and tribute bands..And the sea front is fantastic a boardwalk runs along the beach if you fancy a stroll. Go its ExcellentMore
