Miras Studio

The main attraction of Zaton Veliki has hardly changed over the centuries - a little, sheltered bay in and out of which putters the odd motor boat. Mira's Studio is perfectly placed for enjoying the little bay as it sits just 10m away from the waterfront and a swimming platform from which dips in the clear waters can be taken. The studio offers cosy, compact and rather simple accommodation just for two. A short flight of stone steps leads up to the large, covered terrace, which is a lovely vantage point for taking in the coastal views, over the attractive flowering oleander trees and the pots of flowers lovingly tended by friendly owner Mira, who lives in another part of the building with her husband. There is a quiet restaurant next door so there is really very little to do much in the way of catering during a stay here. Traditionally, the way in and out of Zaton Veliki and Zaton Mali was by sea and private motor boat excursions to the Elafiti Islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan can be taken from the two bays.

Zaton Veliki lies just a minute or two's drive, around the headland, from its sister settlement, Zaton Mali. 'Veliki' means large and 'mali' small, but the terms are only relative to each other as Zaton Veliki is just a shade bigger than its sleepy neighbour. There is a small choice of restaurants and a mini-market arranged around the bay, but that is pretty much the extent of Zaton Veliki's claims to modernity.
