'With picturesque cobbled streets, attractive architecture and pretty squares, Umag has bags of character to charm visitors to its shore.'
Umag is an old port town that enjoys a central spot out on a peninsula on the west side of the Istrian coast, around 40km to the north of Porec. It boasts a charming small town character, complete with old town walls, medieval basilicas, quaint churches and beautiful scenery. It headland location gives visitors great views overlooking the scenic semi-circular bay and lively marina. The old town is pedestrianised so you can stroll around at your leisure amongst the many bars, restaurants and cafes. Along the seafront there's an attractive promenade that is lined with busy fish restaurants offering yet more stunning views of fancy yachts, sat side by side with simple fishing boats, in the town's harbour. Along the wooded 'riviera' stand a choice of modern tourist resorts, which feature all the facilities a holidaymaker could wish for, including some of the best sporting facilities in the area. There are also a number of pebbly and rocky beaches to explore for those of you looking to swim, or simply laze about in the sunshine. When it comes to shopping a visit along the coast to Porec is your best option, they also have an excellent arts and crafts market there. The food in this region is a real mixture of cultural influences, so you'll find the menus very varied. Around Umag there are also lots of vineyards, which of course means ample opportunity for wine tasting during your stay. All these assets combine to make a deservedly popular holiday hotspot.
