Now a popular tourist destination thanks to its glorious coastline, its opportunities for sports and its excellent accommodation, the village of Tucepi was first settled four thousand years ago by the Illyrians. The area is characterised by terraced gardens, vineyards and olive groves, fed by the many natural springs. (The name 'Tucepi' may come from Old Illyrian and mean 'village at the source'). The coastal slopes are dotted with villages built in traditional Mediterranean style and the signs of much earlier habitation, such as the impressive tumuli - the burial mounds of prehistoric people. An ancient stone-built hill fort overlooks the village.
On nearby Sutvid hill are the remains of a necropolis from the classical period, where engraved stelae (upright stone slabs), graves and Roman coins have been found. The village has several interesting churches, and there are three baroque villas along the coast. Pebble beaches surrounded by pine and olive trees offer plenty of scope for watersports. Tucepi lies at the foot of the limestone peak of Biokovo, a centre for mountaineering, caving and speleology, and hiking among flower-filled meadows, as well as for hunting mouflon and chamois. To the west, Tucepi borders Makarska, the principal town of the famously beautiful Makarska riviera.

Most of the shopping facilities on the Makarska Riviera are to be found in the main town of Makarska, which is just a short taxi or water taxi ride away, with Tucepi's local facilities consisting of little more than a small supermarket, fresh produce stalls and small specialist stores.
Sports facilities are available mainly in hotels. Sports include tennis, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. Within the village and worth a visit are the Church of Our Lady's Birth, a single nave Dalmatian Provincial Baroque building near the modern cemetery. Built in 1703, the church retains several elements of an early Christian church dating to the fifth century. In the southwest of the village is the 14th century St. George's Church, a single nave Romanesque-Gothic building with a semicircular apse. Ferries to the island of Brac are available in the nearby town of Makarska, where you will also find numerous shops and restaurants.
