Barica

Barica is a little semi-detached stone house which enjoys every one of these attractions at close hand, and adds to them its own particular charms. The small private villa stands amid gardens tended by the friendly owner Mrs Beloc, and is just next door to the spectacular and unique arboretum. Guests are invited to help themselves to Mrs Beloc's vegetables which she grows to sell at Dubrovnik market, while her animals (chickens, three goats and a pig) are kept on the grounds but enclosed and away from the villa.
The villa itself is delightful, and makes a peaceful, romantic hideaway. The living areas are simple but decorated with taste and charm, while the terrace, adjacent to the property, is simply a joy. Sitting here in the shade of a huge fig tree, surrounded by flowers and the pretty cottages of your neighbours, gazing out through trees to the sea and enjoying a simple lunch of fresh produce is sure to feature heavily on your itinerary.

Trsteno is a small agricultural village on the coast of Dalmatia, but the attractions it boasts suggest a much larger settlement. The village's main appeal is in the fabulous 15th-century arboretum with classical fountains, buildings and a profusion of horticultural species, though lush vegetation flourishes everywhere. There are tiny secluded rocky beaches to be found and sedate views over the sea.
