Guide to Trogir

'The beauty of this historic town will charm those looking to immerse themselves into low key local life, yet there's also plenty to see and do during your stay.'

Trogir is a seductive blend of faded palaces, cascading belfries and a labyrinth of ancient streets, earning it the distinction of being a UNESCO World Heritage site. Set on a particularly picturesque spot along the famous Dalmation coast, the area was founded by the Greeks back in the third century BC. The old town is very distinctive from the new, both in location and in style. The old town sits proudly on an oval island floating in the iridescent blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. Venture out to the old town by crossing the 17th century Land Gate and see its many historic treasures, including the fine Cathedral of St Lawrence with its intricate Romanesque portal, and Stafileo Palace with its Venetian Gothic windows and arches of flowers, and of course the main square. Next meander through the market place for freshly picked fruit and vegetables, as well as speciality hams, cheeses and homemade wines in a dazzling concoction of different varieties and bottles. When it comes to nightlife you'll find that Trogir is bustling with good restaurants, pavement cafes and stylish bars, providing ample opportunity to sit and savour the relaxing ambience and sample a few local dishes. To get the best view of the area look out from Kamerlengo Fortress before wandering to Riva, the perfect place for a sunset stroll and where you'll find the heart of the nightlife.
