If you really want to getaway from it all, the Perna is the perfect escape. A pretty, pastel-washed four-storey house in the tiny village of Perna, near Orebic, it sits in stunning countryside on the Peljesac Peninsula. But although it's rural, you're not too far off the beaten track here. Hop on the ferry and in ten minutes you can be on Korcula island with its charming medieval old town. And if you want to soak up the awe-inspiring scenery, the national park island of Mljet is just a boat trip away, too. You can also take a day trip to the beautiful city of Dubrovnik, which is about an hour and a half in the car. If you'd rather stay local though, you'll find plenty to explore, from the Sv. Llija Monastery in the hills behind the Perna to nearby Dingac village where you can wine taste. And right on your doorstep you've got a restaurant and bar and a beguiling little shingle bay that's washed by diamond-clear waters. When you want to head back to base though, your bright and airy apartment will be a welcome sight. Lovingly renovated, there are just six rooms here, so you're never treated like a room number – more like an old friend. With a restful neutral decor, each one-bedroom apartment has modern furnishings, tiled flooring and a balcony with views over the twinkling seas and Korcula island. You'll find a smart, open-plan living space with a lounge area that has a comfy sofa and satellite television. A small, but contemporary-style kitchen with all the mod cons. And a dining table seating four. Or if you fancy eating al fresco, take your meal out onto your balcony which has a table and chairs. There's also a spacious double bedroom. A superb beachfront base, you'll feel relaxed in next to no time at the Perna.
