Hotel Milenij's exterior is attractively painted in a soft pastel pink, while inside pretty, colour-coordinated fabrics and wallpaper in combination with handsome, dark, wooden furniture provide a standard of interior decoration which is both stylish and extremely comfortable. That royalty and assorted bigwigs from the final days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire once stayed here is not too difficult to imagine when you consider the impressive wrought-iron staircases, marble pillars and elaborate stained-glass windows in the stairwells.The day starts off here with an extensive hot and cold buffet breakfast which can be taken out on to the grand, stone-colonnaded terrace overlooking the waterfront. All tastes are catered for, from delicious poppy seed cakes to smoked Dalmatian ham which guests can carve off the bone for themselves. For those who wish to start their day in the most leisurely way possible - and this is a holiday after all - breakfast is served until the indulgent hour of 11:30 a.m.

Centrally located in Opatija, there are plenty of restaurants serving up Istrian, Croatian and Italian specialities close at hand. The Milenij naturally has its own restaurant specialising in fresh regional dishes, as well as a lobby bar and a cafe serving up pastries prepared by the hotel's own confectioners. For a comfortable stay in a highly desirable shoreline location, the Hotel Milenij is likely to prove difficult to beat.
