Villa Bogdanovic  

A traditional house less than 100m from the sea with an enclosed garden. A quiet alley leads from Lopud Bay to this traditional stone house. The shower room, just off the living room, has an attractive blue mosaic-tiled shower and the two bedrooms are located off the hallway at the front of the house. The interior is furnished simply with red-tiled floors, whitewashed walls, attractive wooden furniture and a colourful collection of Albanian shawls. Adjoining the house is a stone-flagged terrace in the shade of a flourishing vine with a lovely, thick, stone table for al fresco dining, perhaps prepared on the antique wrought-iron grill, while orange and mandarin trees provide dappled shade in the garden.

The private and enclosed garden of the villa overflows with collections that would be the envy of any museum. Stone cannon balls, an anchor, huge mortars once used to grind up large rocks of salt and now supporting flowering geraniums, a type of millstone for pressing oil from olives and very old columns (one of which ingeniously supports an outdoor shower) evoke the social history of southern Dalmatia much more than a wordy tract ever could!
