On leaving your car at the edge of Cavtat's peaceful pedestrianised centre, a short walk up the gently stepped backstreets brings you to Hotel Villa Kvaternik's cobbled street and lovely stone exterior, sprawled amid enclosed grounds in a characterful residential area. This hotel has been a real labour of love for owners Stan and Ken, Croatians who have returned home from Australia and completely renovated the 16th-century building to create a warm, romantic atmosphere which, coupled with their discreet and friendly service creates a sense of exclusivity.
Originally a 14 bedroom house, the hotel now has just six lovely guest rooms, decorated in a soothing scheme and retaining many of the building's original features; the odd uneven floor or unexpected stone step just adds to the charm of this retreat. We have chosen one room for Simply guests, which makes the perfect romantic hideaway as it has its own private courtyard - a delightful nook which is not overlooked, which makes a cool, tranquil place to escape to for an afternoon.

Stan and Ken are rightly proud of their small, friendly and comfortable hotel, and they welcome guests with evident pleasure. While the location is fantastic, with three beaches within a short stroll and Cavtat's restaurants also nearby, in summer guests will be lucky enough to have local events come to them; the hotel is sometimes a venue for a performance or two as part of Cavtat's summer festival.
