'Pebble shores, pavement cafes and meandering old town streets – punctuated with restaurants and bars… it's little wonder Cavtat's been a British favourite for donkeys years.'
Cavtat sits on a scenic bay, sprinkled with several pebble beaches and backed by a palm-fringed promenade. Naturally the sea is the focus of attention, with activities ranging from sedate strolls round the little harbour to a feast of watersports. From June to September the warm, clear Adriatic waters play host to sailing and scuba diving, windsurfing and waterskiing, para-sailing and pedaloes, rowing boats and jet-skis – so even on the waves you can set your own pace. Back on land there are pretty paths criss-crossing the peninsula, pavement cafes for people-watching pauses and plenty of gift shops for browsing and buying. With a lengthy history and a lot of modern hotels, this attractive town is a successful blend of old and new. Cavtat's art gallery, Baroque church and domed octagon Mausoleum are among the sightseeing must-dos. But if you're more gourmet oriented, you'll find a great choice of speciality restaurants where you can while away a whole evening over good food and good company. It's a lovely spot for a leisurely stay.
