Hotel Kastil

The seafront location of the Kastil Hotel in Bol can hardly be bettered as just a narrow road, which hugs the side of the bay, separates the hotel from the shallow, blue-green waters. The view across the straits, which separate the two islands, to mountainous Hvar is likely to linger in the memory long after a breakfast taken on the front terrace.
The 32 pleasant, comfortable bedrooms are located over four floors and all offer a sea view, be it full or partial. Not all of the rooms have a balcony, which is not the result of bad planning, but rather because of the conservation order which the Kastil operates under, for it occupies a 600-year-old building which has seen life as a fortress and a royal palace before its present incarnation as a hotel. One modern addition which has been allowed, however, is double glazing to help ensure that the hotel's central village location does not obstruct a peaceful night's sleep.

Guests staying at the Kastil have a choice of dining venues, which belong to the hotel and are also open to the public at large. There is a restaurant on the ground floor which aims to recreate a traditional village atmosphere. The a la carte restaurant (open from June) specialises in pizza and seafood (and reputedly has made a fine name for itself), the breakfast terrace is transformed into an international restaurant, whilst the 'Varadero' cocktail bar to the side of the hotel is a place to be seen to drink an aperitif or digestif.
