Valamar Crystal

The family-friendly Valamar Crystal counts a close-to-it-all setting, a relaxing pool set-up, and lots of things to do as highlights.

This place has clinched a seafront spot in a pine forest clearing. You can walk to the ragged shoreline in a few minutes, and the Roman town of Porec is just a bit further on.

The hotel is well geared up for families, with lots of activities and separate pools for children and adults. Décor is cool and contemporary – rooms come with beech furniture and brightly painted feature walls.

Nice but overpiced hotel

The Hotel indoors are renovated in a modern style. The Hotel is very clean and comfortable. It has a pool with fresh sea water which is great for the kids. The prices in the Hotel are high, and not accompanied with the same quality of service. (Male) Staff at the reception and waiters at the restaurant need more professional attitude. Vedrana (the waiter) was the only exception from this, very attentive, professional and guest oriented.More

Maja G,

Great holiday

Stayed here for a week as a family of four in July and had a great time. As we booked it pretty late we had two rooms for the four of us,but the rooms were next to each other so no problem at all. The rooms were airey and modern and we're more than big enough. The food was excellent and always plenty of choices to suit everyone. Would advise though to eat later as it's really busy early on. Plenty of sunbeds at the pool and no need to be getting up in the middle of the night to reseve one. The town of porec is a 20 minute walk and is a lovely walk along a path through the forest and we'll lit up. Only complaint about that were the cycle taxis who ride at ridiculous speeds causing you to jump out of the way. The town itself is beautiful with plenty of bars and restaurants. Overall we had a fantastic time and would def return to both the resort and hotel.More

Sean B,

very underwhelmed

As I booked only one week before and paid 1200 gbp for HB I was rather underwhelmed but can imagine if somebody paid say 700 gbp by booking in advance they would have a different opinion, nevertheless am quite surprised by the amount of good reviews The hotel is a bit confused in terms of market position as many areas are good but the rooms are very very budget in flavor and quite depressing, and having stayed at a valamar in Dubrovnik found this one quite a surprise The initial arrival and impressions were poor - our taxi transfer driver at drop off was accosted and abused by a taxi driver parked in the grounds, (not aided by the security guard who did nothing) possibly over whose pitch it was, so I suggest management to take care in terms of what local taxis they let in to their rank to avoid confrontations - being attacked on arrival is not a great start - reception was rather off handish and not helpful either at check in and later when they would carry on filling in documents while I stood patiently waiting for ages - we discovered the website is confusing / misleading in terms of facilities it seems to suggest that only the sauna is for additional money but the whole 'wellness' facility which is in another hotel including sauna, gym, indoor pool and other facilities is for additional cash - the 'minibar lady' was very annoying in terms of entering the room even when the do not disturb is posted or asked not to and then getting annoyed at not being allowed in - we had booked and committed to a 90 eur late check out fee due to late flights which was then reneged less than a day before checkout after being booked 6 days in advance - rooms are as mentioned poorly appointed very basic and small, I kept banging my legs walking round the bed and no space for cases, furniture something frankly below ikea - there are no irons in the room and only 3 for the whole hotel, in 7 days never once managed to get one We took these issues up with the hotel director who was helpful and endeavoured to rectify what he could within reason so that was a positive but we anyway left with a not great impression not least of all that based on technical criteria for a (UK standard) 4 star hotel this could never be one In terms of positives, - food was good and varied, quite a selection including some reasonably healthy options, (notwithstanding all items labeled as grilled were fried or deep fried) I did not become bored, and wine cheap and tasty, restaurant staff friendly and hard working, as mentioned in other reviews better to go later on than the start of meal times - bar staff ditto although some of the bar food especially the pool bar was a bit questionable - facilities notwithstanding issues noted above quite good and not overly crowded, bar and communal areas quite pleasant Main drawback is the beach area (not really a beach just a grassy area then a seawall that you climb down to swim) which is in fact a public access area so even though you may pay for loungers there, people from other hotels or locals will come between the loungers with their towels/ beer / picnic / radios or all of the above and generally be noisy/ drunk / annoying and parts of the area tend s to look like a refugee camp with tents etc I realize this is not the fault of the hotel but still affects the enjoyment of paying hotel guests so should be mentioned Would never go back and rate it 1 or 2 stars if not for the fact the hotel director seemed to be professional and helpful hence it got a 3More

IRBaboonLondon,

Simply fantastic

We have just returned from a week's holiday at the Valamar Crystal. Our holiday was superb and the location was amazing. From start to finish the staff were amazingly friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Every member of staff we came across had a smile on their face regardless of the time of day. As a family of five we had three rooms and requested them close together. This wasn't any trouble. The rooms had a balcony, mini bar, tv, air con with good sized ensuite. They were impeccably serviced daily. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and dinner and much of the food was cooked in front of you. It is buffet style but the service was excellent. We had lunch at the pool bar which offered a good selection and everything was delicious. Again the service was superb. The pool area was excellent. There were plenty of sun beds. The pool doesn't open until 9am so need to get up at silly o'clock to reserve beds. We were also given fresh towels every day to use by the pool. A lovely touch. There is entertainment in the evening aimed at families and being a family hotel it is quiet from around midnight. The hotel also organised a beach party one evening which was superb. Porec is a lovely little town and only a 20 minute walk from the hotel. There is lots to do in and around the beach and plenty of room to relax. There are areas of the sea cordoned off to allow safe swimming. Thank you to every member of staff we came across who made our stay so wonderful. We only saw a small part of Croatia but what a lovely part it was. We will definitely return. More
