Set on a pedestrianised street near Lapad Bay, Karolina’s House is a welcoming base with restaurants, bars and the beach only a four-minute walk away. The friendly owners, Lovorko and Andelka, live downstairs and are keen gardeners. They divide their time between the beautiful gardens here and their vineyard in the Peljesac Peninsula.
One of Dubrovnik's characteristically rugged beaches is just a ten-minute walk away from Karolina's House.
There’s a small but well-equipped kitchenette. The living space, meanwhile, has a dining table and chairs, plus French doors that open out onto the terrace. The shady terrace is cheerfully furnished and has kiwis trailing overhead. You can dine here with views of the pretty gardens below, which are planted with rose, magnolia and mandarin trees. Good/very good value for money
I studied the other reviews before I booked this apartment, so the steps and noise from the road were not unexpected. The noise from the road wasn't so intrusive that you could not sleep but it was certainly noisier than we were used to. Some nights we slept with the windows shut and the air conditioning switched on. There were in fact only about four broken steps up to the apartment and parts of Dubrovnik are hilly so stairs are to be expected! The apartment was clean and reasonably spacious for the four of us (two adults and two children - ten and twelve). The owners did not meet us when we first arrived but two very helpful and polite girls did. In addition, when I knocked later in the week to arrange staying a bit later in our apartment on our last day the owners could not have been more helpful and polite. The crockery in the apartment could really do with updating; only two mugs did not have a chip or a crack in it. The cooker, fridge-freezer and washing machine were all clean and new. The bedding and towels were lovely and clean. The beds were very firm and comfortable but the pillows were very lumpy! They need to buy new pillows! For the price we paid for our holiday, this apartment had a fantastic location close to two nice beaches, close to lots of bars and restaurants. It was convenient for catching a bus into the old town and it also had a great view. I would happily stay there again. Fair value for money.More
My review is in contrast to others on here but I am aware there are many Lapad Apartments. Our was down the road from the buono restaurant and was ideally located for us. There are a few steps but we were greeted on arrival by two cleaners/carers of the apartments who didnt speak much English. They rang the owner who communicated well with us. The apartment was large, clean, had a washer, dryer, oven and hobs and was well equipped. It had good broadband and American tv with a good selection of channels. It is ideally located for the strip and also for the harbour. There is a bus stop close by that gets you to the old town for £3 return. Beware the buses though. Queuing isn't done in Croatia and it is a push to squeeze on to the busy buses. Overall we were well pleased but we are a young couple who were happy to walk everywhere. For the price it was excellent. More

Fawlty Towers in Lapad
Please be warned if you are travelling to Dubrovnik and staying in the Lapad area, do not stay in these disgracefully dirty apartments. There is no sign stating that they are apartments, there are 50 filty broken steps up to the apartments, there is no one there to greet you on arrival, your key is left either in the door or under the mat, and believe me, it does not get any better once inside the dirty, smelly apartments. The bathroom stinks, the kitchen area is filty, the bedding is not clean, the pillows mouldy - During our 10 day stay, not once did the apartment owner make themselves known to us, the apartment was not cleaned or rubbish removed at all during our 10 day holiday. Having been to Dubrovnik before and having had a thououghly enjoyable time, I was horrified at the level of accomodation that we got.More
