One week sunny beach

I was expecting more from a Thomson platinum offer! Liked the choice of bread in the morning! Didn't like the idea that you had to pay for the Internet which was not stable at all. Coffee was terrible and the hotel spa was way too expensive. The taxi driver outside the hotel was too pushy so we rather walked. If you want to relax then the area is not for you ! Hotel is outdated. Be aware that if you leave in the evening that it will cost you a fortune to keep the room for few more hours ! Would not visit again ! More

Silvana P,

Fantastic Hotel

Our third visit to Sunny Beach but our first time in the Helios. We just cannot understand some of the reviews that this hotel is receiving from some people, we know its all down to personal choice but we honestly couldn't fault this hotel in any way shape or form. We have stayed at the Majestic which is rated number one in SunnyBeach and we can honestly say that this hotel is on par. The food was superb, whether it be breakfast lunch or dinner, if anyone goes hungry at this hotel then we just don't know what they want or expect. There seems to be some bad reports on the snacks, again we can't understand them. We have never been in any all inclusive hotel and had the variety and choice that was available, not just pancakes or cakes, really a full menu. Now to the drinks..... all this about them being watered down is so untrue. I drink vodka and it's the first time i have been able to have Absolut vodka on an all inclusive package, as for whiskey drinkers they have 100 Pipers brand, all you have to do is ASK. We found all of the staff very friendly and helpful, from front of house down to maintenance nothing was too much trouble for them. The location is great, far enough out of the hustle and bustle of Flower Street but near enough to walk if that is what you want. One little niggle for us was the dress code in the restaurant at dinner, supposedly no shorts or vest tops for men but sadly this doesn't seem to be enforced. Surely its nothing to go and put a shirt and trousers on and change after dining. We did approach the restaurant manager to ask why shorts were allowed and his reply was that if they were dress shorts and below the knee it was ok , in our mind a bit of a cop out.More

Riu Helios - Excellent value

Our first visit to Bulgaria. My wife and I were impressed with the hotel (all inclusive) for the price. We chose a room with a pool view which was no extra charge. A sea view costing £80 dearer with Thomson's. I don't think I'd recommend the street view because of the half built, seemingly derelict hotel opposite. Our balcony was in full sun till early afternoon then in shade later. The two swimming pools were cold at first but you get used to it quickly. Everything clean and tidy especially the rooms which were well cleaned daily - so you have to vacate them in the morning or use do not disturb sign provided. We didn't have too much problem getting sunbeds but everyone does leave towels on even when they are away so you might be left with one in the shade. Food choice is very good in all restaurants - no problem getting tables either. The Hotel is in a quieter area of sunny beach but within a 5 minute walk of the busier centre. A good location. My only gripe would be the all inclusive drinks - very cheap spirits etc - more expensive bottles seemingly there for show. But drinks available everywhere in resort are very cheap (especially cocktails) and there is more choice outside the hotel. The hotel wi-fi at 70 lev for 7 days isn't the fastest but was acceptable. You can only use it on one device.More
