Riu Helios was a great hotel for our family (teens and adults). The rooms were a really good size, hotel was generally peaceful (unlike some nearby which had blaring music) and the pool areas were lovely. We found the food to be great, but none of us are fussy eaters. Vegetarians might struggle as there is a lot of meat! The Asian and Bulgarian restaurants in the hotel were so nice, we went to both twice each- no charge, you just need to be organised and book them. Almost without exception the staff were helpful and friendly, especially the Animation team and the reception staff. The one exception is the Lifeguards at the pool who will NOT give you a towel if on the day you arrive you happen to get there after 11am.... however if you ask reception, they will give you spare room towels you can use at the pool- which was great as we just wanted to swim on the afternoon we arrived. The location is excellent- right by the beach and markets, and a short walk from the bus stops to get you to Nessebar and the Aquaparks. The spa treatments seemed excellent value- I only had a massage and reflexology, but both were really great, and made a lovely treat at the end of our tripMore

first visit to bulgaria
the hotel is located very close to all amenities but far enough away for peace and quiet. sunny beach is very comercial with plenty of shops, fairground rides, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. there isnt a massive amount to do outside of this it doesnt have a lot of culture except for the trip to nessebar which is a lovely place but the culture is drowned with the usual shops bars and restaurants.
the beach is fantastic and sandy and over 2 miles long. it doesnt deep very quickly so quite safe although on some days you get a short line of seaweed to wade through first.
our first impressions from the corridoors was that it was a bit tired but the rooms were really good lovely comfy bed but lumpy pillows. we found the staff to be unobtrusive but really efficient. we wasnt told when we were booking that this was the last week of the season so the resort and hotel was starting wind down so the restaraunt times and availability of snacks was reduced gradually. we didnt expect this from a thomson platinum hotel. we were also unable to try the specialist restaurants as they closed without us being able to give the required booking time.
all in all we had a great holiday the food and alcohol being of a good standard and came away very relaxed, yes we would go to sunny beach again and stay in the same hotel but we wouldnt do more than 7 days as we believe it would then get a bit repetetive
also the hotel wifi was expensive and rubbish was getting 20 m bit in some of the bars so it was a hotel issueMore

First & last time to Bulgaria
The hotel was great, had a room with sea view, could possibly do with tea/coffee facilities in the rooms as this is only available when restaurants or bars are open, there was plenty of choices in the restaurant, would definitely recommend a visit to the Asian & Bulgarian restaurants.
Would just like to point out be wary at airport (cases tampered with & items stolen)
Lots of shops & bars be aware when out walking.More

First time in Bulgaria
First time and i can honestly say it was beautiful, weather was hot we went in July 2015 up to 30* on some days . Very friendly helpful people, a lot of beggars but you will get that in most countries. Nesbar was like i smaller Italy beautiful cobbled streets with cottages with red rofes and flower window boxes. We stayed in Sunny Beach the beaches were beautiful lovely breeze off the sea but be careful even the breeze will burn you. We would definitely go back againMore
