Bulgaria Average, Hotel Excellent
visited Sunny beach with friends, we wanted the nightlife but also a decent hotel so picked this one as it wasn't on the strip.
The location is excellent, directly on the beach and in a quieter spot of Sunny Beach.
I was very impressed with this hotel especially the food and staff.
We didn't experience any of the animation staff at night, but during the day they were enthusiastic and attentive.
I would recommend this hotel for family's and couples.
Excellent for the price.More

Fun in the Sun on Sunny Beach
Riu Helios was a great hotel for our family (teens and adults). The rooms were a really good size, hotel was generally peaceful (unlike some nearby which had blaring music) and the pool areas were lovely. We found the food to be great, but none of us are fussy eaters. Vegetarians might struggle as there is a lot of meat! The Asian and Bulgarian restaurants in the hotel were so nice, we went to both twice each- no charge, you just need to be organised and book them. Almost without exception the staff were helpful and friendly, especially the Animation team and the reception staff. The one exception is the Lifeguards at the pool who will NOT give you a towel if on the day you arrive you happen to get there after 11am.... however if you ask reception, they will give you spare room towels you can use at the pool- which was great as we just wanted to swim on the afternoon we arrived. The location is excellent- right by the beach and markets, and a short walk from the bus stops to get you to Nessebar and the Aquaparks. The spa treatments seemed excellent value- I only had a massage and reflexology, but both were really great, and made a lovely treat at the end of our tripMore

Went to this hotel in 2013 had an amazing time. Staff couldn't do enough for us made to feel very welcome and had a good time. Went back in 2014 and the atmosphere had completely changed what a let down. Poolside games no more hotel had been told to cater for other nationalities because they wanted a more quiet holiday and that's where the money came from. Strolling along the seafront met with a woman using the beach as a toilet in full view. Then to our horror local people where mugging tourist with a con about buying fruit. Not nice to be afraid of walking down the seafront will never go there again. Resort full of con men prostitutes and mafia.More

Worth a visit
Travelled with Mum, Aunt and Sister for a week in September. Emailed the hotel in advance to request rooms as close as possible and received a curt reply but they did oblige and we had two lovely rooms with sea view. The food was good and the wine very drinkable. It would have been nice to have someone meeting and greeting in the restaurent as when it was busy it was hard to find a table. Also as you never had the same waiter there was no report built so all a bit impersonal.
We booked the Asian restaurant which was great, the Bulgarian not quite so good although we were met at the door with a drink.
The pools were nice but too cold to enjoy a dip. Also you were not allowed to put sun beds on the grass which I thought was odd. I like to be under natural shade and enjoy the area.
It was a nice weeks break but I missed the friendly warmth of other countries, but was good value for money.More
