This smart-looking hotel scores a double coup – it sits on the beach and has a great pool scene, too.
The Hotel Riu Helios Bay stretches out alongside a sandy beach, so it’s ideal in terms of location. What’s more, it’s less than a 5-minute walk from the pretty town of Obzor.
With whitewashed walls, arched balconies and a terracotta roof, this place is classically good-looking. And in terms of accommodation, plush carpets and mahogany furniture stand out against cream walls. It'll be undergoing a full refurb for May 2017, with a refresh to all rooms, a bigger main restaurant and lobby area, and a brand new karaoke bar.

Very nice, spacious rooms.
After being let down by a friend I travelled solo. Hotel is pleasant tho not overly easy finding things until exploring hotel. Food isn't bad. Local restaurants are friendly and v reasonable. Town is safe to venture on your own without feeling threatened. Locals all quite pleasant. Hotel staff are polite tho not overly chatty. Free things such as bottled water(if all inclusive) are not made clear nor where to collect towels for loungers by pool. On the whole I like the hotel and would gladly revisit but with group of friends next time. More
Fab hotel with lovely staff. They all speak good English which is a good bonus. Food it great however I didn't like the deserts but that's my opinion. I would defiantly recommend this hotel to people and I will defiantly be coming back to this hotel my self. Lovely clean rooms.More
i have just been reading a few of this hotel reviews.we were here 12months ago at the sametime of yearwe werethe party of 4 ladies all over the age of 60.we were on the 4th floor over looking the football pitch.we never had any trouble with the driver from the airport, helped us put our cases in and out the coach.we never seen any rubbish from these bins ripped openat all.we took our cases up to our rooms ourselves no problem, there are lifts.the rooms are always clean as there cleaned everyday.we had no trouble with staff not understanding english as they seemed to know what we wanted they where always very pleasant to us.the food you couldnt complain about as there where loads of different dishes to pick from.the only reason there wasnt enough tables inside was the weather was cold and people werent sitting outside as they usually do.animation team do the best with what theyve got as their on duty from morning till turned 11pm or later and then back next morning .the hotel is alovely place and a lovely building it has agreat place atthe beach.obzor is anice place not far to walk to to the hotel. in fact we walked back from obzor and found they had found some remains which were fenced of but if you dont go down the side roads we wouldnt have found them.all i can say is maybe these people who complain about the entertainment should join in and enjoy themselves as we do.we where there from8th sept. to22nd.we understand the season is closing but why dont people go to places that are open 12 mmonths of the year there is nothing with bulgeria or theRIU HELIOS BAY HOTEL.More

Riu Make it Good.
We travelled to Helios Bay in Obzor on the 19th September and spent 11 nights there.I am going to review the holiday aswell as the hotel. I would like to start with the coach from the airport to the hotel, this sets a precedence to the remainder of your holiday so they need to get this right, on this occasion they failed miserably, I had 10 Lev in my pocket to tip the driver, he didn't get it. We had to load our own cases onto the coach and physically climb under the coach to retrieve them once at the hotel whilst the driver never got out of his seat, No big deal, but it is when you are observing elderly people struggling to get their cases. Someone employs this coach firm be it Thomson's or the hotel, but that really does need addressing. We arrived at approximately 0430am No one on duty in the hotel to help with cases, we were booked in and given directions to find the room, We had a room on the fourth floor to the side of the hotel, this overlooked a football pitch and the hotels rubbish bins, that were often ripped open and left smelly and scattered about by the local cats, ( easy solution this one- move the bins inside the garage area ).Its probably all sounding negative but to be honest it wasn't really , there are lots more positives. The room was spacious and of a good standard with a fridge, a large bathroom, a tv and a balcony ( no drink making facilities so take a kettle ), The hotel staff were pleasant but a lot struggled with basic English, the food on offer was quite good with plenty of variety (pizzas, chips and burgers available everyday for the picky), the only issue with the restaurant is that there didn't appear to be enough tables, and people had to leave to try again later due to the not being enough room/tables, ( a solution would be to wait and then be shown to a table by restaurant staff ), I overheard quite a few complaining reference that issue. Pool area was good and sunbeds plentiful, drinks were good and the bars are staffed well. Entertainment in the evening was pretty grim and very bog standard, the animation team basically a group of youths acting silly, not very entertaining at all in my opinion,on saying that though some people seemed to enjoy it.a basic game of bingo lasted well over an hour due to the repetitive repeating everything in various languages. The hotel was occupied I would say by the majority in the age group 45-70 and also the majority were non English. The hotel appears to be kept very clean and there always seems to be a cleaner not a million miles away all day long. The village of Obzor should be nice, however it was very near end of season and most of the shops/bars/restaurants were closed and the owners had left the area, leaving empty shops and boarded up bars, the locals aren't very friendly at all and they also struggle with basic English,we ventured out one night but returned back to the hotel, it didn't feel welcoming, it was very very quiet poorly lit and we felt uneasy, the footpaths are inadequate and quite dangerous in some places so be careful. Weather was Hit and Miss, first few days we thought we had made a big mistake as it was colder than it was at home, but it did pick up and got to around 25 some days. Another thing of note,we noticed a lot of people in the hotel were ill, coughing and sneezing everywhere and we inevitably caught colds, we struggled to find basic flu and cold medicines in the pharmacy, we managed to find a packet of strepsils they cost £7.50 ( take some with you, just in case ). The hotel being part of the RIU chain saved this holiday, we have stayed RIU before and never been disappointed, it was the same here. Obzor itself isn't a very welcoming place and looks untidy, it was very quiet. Try to avoid booking at the end of season like we did, towards the end of the holiday the lack of interest from staff was apparent, and food stuffs were not being restocked. I would return to a RIU hotel, but very much doubt I would ever return to Obzor, or to Bulgaria itself to be honest.More
