The winners of Take Me Out get to stay in Puerto de la Cruz This tropical island sits on the northern coast of Tenerife, so it’s blessed with year-round sunshine and show-stopping beaches. No wonder it’s love at first light, here.
There’s definitely a two-in-one feel in Puerto de la Cruz. Down at the water’s edge, there’s a traditional harbour where brightly-coloured fishing boats bob in the water. It’s also lined by stalls selling traditional Canarian food, so you’ll get a real taste of Tenerife here. Elsewhere, the island’s been injected with a dose of modern features, including trendy cocktail bars, and architect-designed beaches, where watersports top the itinerary.
The lucky contestants of Take Me Out now get to spend their romantic stay at a private villa in Tenerife, since series nine 2017. Unfortunately, the swanky building isn’t available for public use at the moment, and its whereabouts are unconfirmed – but we can offer an amazing alternative. Series two to eight were previously filmed at the 5-star Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden , which is part of our A La Carte collection and was the first hotel in the Canaries to be crowned a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, so you can expect a luxury feel throughout.
The hotel itself is really spectacular, nestled in acres-worth of gardens. As you walk around the greenery, you’ll come across dainty bridges, lily pad-filled streams, and pathways lined by palm trees – which makes for a really romantic stroll, FYI. Further inside the grounds, there’s a stylish pool, featuring a tumbling waterfall and a whirlpool, so it’s the ideal place to relax after a day of jet-skiing at the beach.
Dining-wise, this place pulls out all the stops. There are four restaurants to choose from, and all of them have different themes. The oriental à la carte restaurant is particularly impressive. This eatery had its doors officially opened in 1996 by the Queen of Thailand, and many TripAdvisor reviews give the food top marks – so it’s a great choice for impressing your partner on date night. The two of you will get to tuck into a three-course meal, and you’ll have front-row sunset views if you opt for al fresco seating. It’s also a black tie affair, so be sure to pack your most glamorous outfit.
This hotel boasts an award-winning spa – it was voted one of the best in Europe by Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence in 2014. It also sits right in the middle of the gardens, so it’s really peaceful. Some of the highlights here include a whopping 20 cabins for body and facial treatments, a private spa for couples, a pagoda for Thai massages, an aromatherapy room, a Japanese sauna, and an ice-temple. Spend a few hours in here and you’ll be feeling good as new. Are you tempted yet?
Thanks to the island’s wealth of picture-perfect beaches, green forests and spectacular volcanic landscape, it’s the ideal place for romantic getaways. It’s also known as the Hawaii of Europe, due to its tropical flower-filled setting, so it’s really romantic. Plus, it’s just over four hours’ flight time away, so you won’t have to worry about getting cabin fever on the way there. Did you also know that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert spent many holidays here, too?
Mount Teide is one of the most romantic places on the island to watch the sun sink. As it melts down the hillsides, the ridges and rocks take on pink and red hues. Plus, if you sign up to our Teide By Night excursion, you’ll get to toast with a glass of bubbly, 7,000 feet above ground. And once your glasses are empty, you can look out for stars at a special viewpoint, where a guide will teach you about the different constellations. So ladies and gents: let the sky see the stars.
Water babies will be in their element at Siam Park. It’s the largest water park in Tenerife, and one of the biggest in Europe, too. And thanks to over 30 attractions there’s something to suit everyone. Adrenaline-junkies should look no further than the Tower of Power, which is famous for its nail-biting vertical drop. Alternatively, you can just chill out in one of the lazy rivers. Perfect.
It’s all about fun, sea and excitement in Playa de las Americas. It’s the place to be for watersports, thanks to its six different beaches. And each one majors in adrenaline-filled activities, so you’ll get to pick from the likes of scuba diving, jet-skiing, parasailing, and banana boats, to name a few. Once you’ve dried off, you can make tracks for the cafés and restaurants to wrap things up.
Want to get a bird’s eye view of the Isle of Fernando’s? We think the best way to do it is by a helicopter tour. The two of you will get the chance to fly over some of Tenerife’s best-looking landscapes, including Mount Teide and the surrounding national park (it’s the second most popular in Europe, FYI), the beautiful southern coastline, and the romantic fishing village of La Caleta, to name a few.
If you fancy touring Tenerife’s best bits like the contests did on Take Me Out, why not sign up for a tuk tuk tour of the island? Sweet Tours Tenerife offers plenty of day trips where you’ll get to explore Costa Adeje’s main attractions on a Thai-style tuk tuk. On the full-day trip, you’ll get to tick off sights like Duque Castle, San Sebastian, and Plaza del Duque to name a few. Not to mention some of Tenerife’s best beaches, including Playa del Duque, which is famous for its 500 metres worth of gorgeous, golden sands. Plus, the beach is backed by plenty of quirky stalls selling souvenirs, as well as seafood restaurants and bars, making it the ideal location for a date in the sunshine.
The contestants of Take Me Out have previously sampled a tipple or two at Kaluna Beach Club, and you can, too. This place is marked by its glamorous terrace bar, which overlooks a super-sized infinity pool, so its date-night credentials are as good as it gets. Plus, there’s a second bar serving every cocktail under the sun, as well as the finest Champagne – so you can toast to your date. And when it’s time for a break from dancing on the jam-packed dancefloor, make tracks for a VIP cabin on the beach – a great spot for watching those romantic sunsets sink over the sea. Let the Champagne, see the glass…
