Sitting like an oasis in jungle-like scenery, the luxurious Grand Palladium Colonial Resort & Spa is a gold medal winner in the location stakes. It's perched right on the sands of Kantenah Beach. Its tropical gardens are dotted with palm trees, ornamental fountains and even a pond of pink flamingos. And tucked away in the middle of all this is an enchanting orchid grove with hidden walkways and ecological trails.

The lake-style pool is worth talking about, too. It comes with fabulous little extras like a swim-up bar and in-the-pool sun beds – perfect for keeping cool while you relax. And on the subject of relaxation, they’ve also got one of the largest spas in Latin America here. It sits in the grounds of Grand Palladium White Sand, so the Mayan saunas, Balinese showers and treatment rooms are just a short walk or shuttle-ride away.

Looks-wise the hotel is exquisite. It’s all sleek marble flooring and contemporary furnishings. The bedrooms are a haven of calm with more marble floors, a wall of windows and décor in shades of sunshine yellow, terracotta and forest green. And the eateries come up trumps with an enticing buffet restaurant and a wide range of speciality venues to choose from.

On the activity front, there’s everything from tennis and minigolf to archery and water polo. Down on the beach, meanwhile, you can take the plunge with kayaking and snorkelling or even set sail on a catamaran. There’s also plenty for little ones to enjoy. They’ll love El Ranchito, the hotel-run kids’ club, as well as the children’s playground and pool. And if that wasn’t enough, you can also use the facilities – with the exception of the Royal Suite services - at all the sister hotels in the resort including the Grand Palladium White Sand, the Grand Palladium Kantenah and the Grand Palladium Riviera.
