Really beautiful resort, all the staff were so helpful and kind, had my wedding there, everything was perfect!! A few of the restaurants were closed some nights, but that didn't effect anything as we were told which ones were closed on what night at the beginning of the week, the food was amazing too! It was low season, so it was nice and quite there, but not to quite where we couldn't really enjoy ourselves, the animation team were fantastic, really made the holiday!! Great big thank you to everyone at azul fives!! Couldn't fault it if I tried!! The wifi worked brilliantly everywhere in the resort too, which made a massive differenceMore

Wonderful baby, mommy and grand-parents experience !

We enjoyed a one week stay at mid September 2015. We ate like we never did in the carabeans before ! (Home made pasta, four choice of red house wine from Chile, angus AAA beef, baby food ...) We ate at a la carte restaurants every lunch and dinner. We felt welcomed with my 4 months old baby. The room (essence suite with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room) was great for our intergenerational vacation. Considering a holiday here? Book it and ignore the majority of negative reviews – some people will complain about anything and nothing for goodness sake!! On arrival we were greeted with a huge smile from Carlos, at reception, and provided with both a cold drink and very warm welcome. Staff – A HUGE THANKS TO YOU ALL.-Jamie, Yadira, Herebito, Wilberth. Danni and Azucana at La Cantina bar and staff at the Gin bar. A big thanks to the staff who remove the seaweed These guys work so hard, to make sure we, as guests, can enjoy the beach/ocean in comfort Restaurants – we appreciated the need to close some of the restaurants, due to reduced number of guests towards the end of the season, a little disappointed we were not forewarned. We were given a list of restaurants, with opening times over the 2 weeks, It wasn’t a huge problem but perhaps, in future, if this is going to happen again please ensure you let guests know of the changes Gourmet food – Truly amazing!! Great choice, we were really spoilt for choice. Overall – a spectacular holiday in an amazing setting, excellent staff, fantastic food and we can’t wait to return again next year. More

Best, yet worse holiday ever!!!

To criticise this hotel would be very wrong but to praise this hotel would also be very wrong. I have just had the best and yet most worst holiday of my life. Having not been on holiday for 3 years and coupled with the fact that I was due to celebrate my 40th birthday, myself and my husband decided to book a luxury family holiday for us and our 2 sons (aged 10 and 5). We booked a 2 week vacation at the Azul Fives and paid for a few upgrades such as taxi transfer, selected seats on plane, room with a pool view. On arrival at the Azul Fives we were greeted by welcoming staff, which was very nice. Unfortunately, the niceness stopped promptly when we were shown to our room. Being that this was supposed to be a 5 star hotel, we were very shocked when we saw our room. Extremely disappointing would be an understatement. First of all, we did not have a pool view, which we had paid for and instead was on the side of a villa with a garden view. The room was a lot smaller than we expected and did not contain 2 double beds (as shown on the website and other booking literature).The room actually contained 2 4ft beds, which would have been uncomfortable to spend 2 weeks sleeping in. The room was extremely tired looking, showed a lot of signs of damp and was quite smelly. There was rust on all of the metal work in the room, particularly in the bathroom. The sliding doors on the wardrobe were falling off and wouldn’t open and close properly. The balcony was very dirty and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly for some time. The shower door wouldn’t close properly and water leaked out all over the floor into the bathroom, making it very dangerous, especially having a 5 year old wandering around. To top it all off the safe didn’t work. Not what you expect to be greeted with after a long time travelling!!! I went straight to the reception to express my concerns. The staff there were reasonably helpful and tried to find me an alternative room. Unfortunately the alternative, even though offering a pool view, was still of a similar standard and not at all what we would expect from a 5 star hotel. I explained that we were there to celebrate my 40th birthday and really wanted to make out trip special. Unfortunately this didn’t seem to matter and there seemed to be a serious lack of personal care for our stay at the hotel. We decided to wait until the morning to speak to someone different who could offer a better solution to our problem. The following day we went straight to see our First Choice Representative, as well as the hotel reception staff to try to get our room problems sorted out. Not being able to use our safe, we had to start our holiday wandering around with a bag full of all our valuables, which wasn’t very pleasant and was somewhat of a worry. After being ignored by our First Choice Rep and fobbed off by the Reception staff, my husband found out that we had a personal concierge, Sergio. This guy turned out to be one of the biggest assets to our holiday and without him our stay would have been somewhat grim. He was very friendly, welcoming and extremely attentive. After discussions with Sergio it would seem that the only solution was going to cost us. It would appear that the only way to remedy our problems was to move to a bigger room and sadly pay for this privilege. We were told that a suite was available to us but there would be a charge. Not wanting to spend 2 weeks in the initial room we had been given, we moved. This was a lot better than the room we had been initially placed in but sadly ended up costing us more money. After speaking to a number of other holiday makers, it would seem that we weren’t the only people to experience problems with our room. It would seem that the condition of the majority of standard rooms, within this complex, are low and renovation work needs to be done on them. Room problems sorted, we did start to relax and enjoy our holiday although there were a few other niggles along the way. There is a lot of renovation work being carried out on many rooms and the noise can be heard throughout the complex. They are using power tools in rooms right next to many of the pools and this can be a disturbance during the day. For a number of the days we were there, part of the pool area was cordoned off to allow renovation work to be completed. Some of the restaurants were suddenly closed on evenings when they should have been open. This we believe may have been due to the fact that the hotel was running on a low occupancy rate and was not economically viable for them to open. On most occasions we didn’t let this bother us. The only night this was saddening was on my birthday. We had hoped to have a meal in the Italian and my husband booked a table. At the last minute we were told that this was going to close and we ended up having to wait over an hour to get a table at an alternative. My evening birthday celebrations were ruined. The restaurant we ended up in was extremely busy and the service was appalling. It took over an hour to get a table and then 25 minutes to be served with even just a glass of water. Not the way I had envisaged spending my birthday evening. This hotel lacks a lot of personal touch, particularly from the management. It would appear that the majority of the low end staff are trying to do a reasonable job of keeping guests happy and make their holiday enjoyable. Most of the bar tenders, waitresses, maids etc are all very pleasant and accommodating. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the members of staff higher up, who seem to rally against the good work done and make the guests stay a misery. It would appear that to truly enjoy this holiday, you have to spend a fortune. We found that this hotel is not happy with the money you have paid to get you there. It does all it can to extract more from you whilst you are there!!! Before departing for this holiday, my husband contacted the hotel to inform them of my birthday and to find out if there was any way to make it special. We have stayed at other hotels which have provided a special meal and a cake. Azul Fives were happy to provide this but at a cost of $100!!!! The hotel describes their rooms as 5 star but provide you with an initial dump and then charge you to upgrade. They tempt you into the spa with a free taster session but then charge you the earth for a massage. Everything costs more and more money. On a positive note, the grounds of this hotel are beautiful and immaculate as are the pools and the restaurants. The gardeners work extremely hard maintaining the grounds and other staff obviously spend a lot of time looking after all of the external features and it really does show. The food within the restaurants is beautiful and we enjoyed the majority of the meals we had there.More

Great service but some issues

The service and people at this resort were great. The buildings are in need of some TLC. Air went off in the middle of the night and it took until 10:00 AM to fix. Ok it happens, then It went off again. This time the tech came to the room and blew on the thermostat, told him it wouldn't work, last guy told us it was the roof unit, but he assured us it would, it didn't. Called back again, then went to the pool. They got it fixed by the end of the day. Last night in the room it went off again, same process with blowing on the wall thermostat. They told us they were in their 5 year maintenance cycle. Hope they include AC units in that cycle. Biggest issue was that all the restaurants were not open. Only 50% occupied so not enough to people to,open all of them. By mid week all the food started to taste the same. Pool restaurants, 2 of them both closed. When you pay for all inclusive that is what you expect, but not what we got. More
