Great rooms mixed service average food.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday in this hotel. I have tried to remain open minded but a few things continued bug us whilst we stayed. We booked a 1 bedroom suite which I much say was amazing. We had a 24 hour delay so you would think the room would be ready our cot was left outside and we waited over an hour for someone to bring us sheets. Our first room was in block 16 the new one, although it was a beautiful room we had no jacuzzi so we moved rooms to block 10. These were bigger suites. We had an issue with the window in bathroom being stuck open which made the room noisy ethics was hard with a baby through the night. This was reported 3 times but nothing happened. I found the reception staff a bit rude anddid not operate a que system at the desk people were able to push in even when staff knew I was waiting they would happily help others. The food is ok the brasserie for breakfast is perfect the staff are fab in there. The buffet is a huge let down. On 2 occasions they had no food unless u wanted a pizza or pasta dish made. They then filled a dish with pasta and chicken but the pasta was not cooked. The salad area was just different types of lettuce. The themed night advertised on the board was never as advertised for example lasagne on the Mexican night and the same again 2 further nights in a row. The deserts table was not chilled and the deserts were not very interesting. I know buffet restaurants are repetitive but at least other hotels have bigger choice and there is always a few main dishes to choose from and then salad and meats . Flavours did not have this. The Thai restaurant was great food was very good and service was good. Other al la carte were ok but nothing worth writing home about. The bar staff were all great araceli and Paola were fab. The kids facilities were the best I've seen benign a new parent I've got nothing to compare with but the hotel caters very well for babies, especially the room service. Overall a good hotel but def not 5 star food and service let us down I would not recommend this hotel, there are better out there.More

Another day in paradise!

We came to Azul Fives as part of a destination wedding, with about 20 people. Most everything was very good to excellent, although there were some areas that needed attention and were sub-par for such a resort. On a positive side, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive to our needs. Everyone we passed on the extensive walkways smiled and greeted us with warm "holas". There were several people in our party with food sensitivities and all the restaurant staff was accommodating to their needs. Our concierge, Dania was particular helpful and a pleasure to meet and deal with. The bar and restaurant staff were generally very helpful and often went out of their way to please. Miguel and Laura were memorable for their service levels. High points were the Poolside Grill beside Villa 16. Excellent food and great service. Israel and Eduardo were very diligent to make sure our needs were met. The Oka Japanese restaurant was excellent overall, with prompt service. The shashimi, pressed sushi and yakitori were awesome, as was the mochi dessert. Pass on the tempura, as the batter was too thick - more like fish and chips batter, as opposed to thin and crispy. For breakfast, Le Brasserie was awesome!. Great selection of foods, both hot and cold. Terrific selection of cheeses, and fresh honey from a honey comb. Very friendly and attentive staff. Definitely a great way to start the day. The Koh Thai restaurant had great food, but terrible service. We went there twice, and both times had major delays in getting our food. On our 2nd visit, it took almost 1 1/2 hours to get our appetizers, and we're still waiting to get our beef satay. They were also out of several dishes both times we were there. I loved the food, but would prefer the Oka Japanese restaurant. I also heard from others in our party, that the Tsuki restaurant at the beach was very good. Oriola at the beach had great taco selection, with excellent ceviche. The 1910 tequila bar and the Gin bar were great evening meeting spots, with folks from many regions of the world converging and making new friends. On a downside, Flavours restaurant was a disappointment. Noisy, not well laid out, and so so food selection and presentation. It needs a serious updating / revamping to match the level of the resort. I liked Kafeina for their fruit smoothies. For some reason, some of the coffee drinks there are not part of the Gourmet Inclusive menu. The people made this a great experience, but we may explore other resorts next time down to the Mayan Riviera area.More

January 2015 Wedding

We went to Azul Fives looking for a great wedding experience for all our friends and family. There was 96 of us @ the ceremony and reception with most staying on Resort. Every where on the resort you see the attention to detail, with fresh paint being applied, gardens being trimmed, timely clean rooms and friendly smiles from all of the staff. The few issues that some of our guests had were rectified as quick as possible to more than satisfactory outcomes. The food at the restaurants was top notch. Lots of selection and the wait staff moved quickly, but always had a moment to bring laughs and smiles to the table. Poolside service was quick and quality of drinks was superb. The nightly entertainment, daily activities were well put on. I saw so many people having fun and enjoying themselves. Want your mind blown? Check out the break dancing show at the Zky Bar. The Wedding coordinators that we were able to work with were unbelievable and timely. Such great people who genuinely care about your special day going to plan. The Sky Wedding location was beautiful and Private. Cocktails at the Zky lounge was private and perfect with a great place to set up a projector for a slide show. As it was quite windy and would have given us grief in the garden. We had to make a weather call on our reception location the day of. Originally we planned to have a garden dinner and reception, but the weather was possibly going to turn to the worse. It did not after all, but we ended up inside our back up location, the ball room. First thoughts of having to move to the ball room, were disappointing. However, it could not have turned out better. This location, offered, air conditioning, great mood lighting, plenty of room for all 96 of us, a large dance floor, privacy during our speeches and for everyone to cut loose while bringing out the dancing shoes. Highly recommended. Yes there was a lot of young children on the resort, but that's part of why we chose Azul fives, as a handful of our guests had wanted to travel with theirs. Azul offered great services and amenities geared towards the children. Its not like the place was overrun with children. The reviewers that commented about this should give their heads a shake and book in an adults only place next time. Its not like they didn't know this before booking. When your having a good conversation with the right people in the right place, it's easy to not notice the temporary distraction of a disgruntled child. :p I do agree that they need to hire a better Shower tile installer, one that actually carry's a level and makes the water in the showers drain properly. Not all our guests had this issue, but it seemed to be common, especially in the new buildings. All in all, it was a great 10 night stay that we had. Will we go back? Very likely. Will we check out other Karisma locations? Most definitely!! Thanks again to all the great staff.More

The Azul Fives Hotel - Lacking Some Karisma!

Firstly let me start by saying, my wife and I are huge fans of Karisma properties. We Love the El Dorado Royal and the Azul Beach. When we decided to go back to the Riviera Mayan this January it was a no brainer for us return to a Karisma Resort and decided to try a different location. One of the main reasons we love Karisma Resorts is their "Gourmet Inclusive" program, for us the food is a priority and the two properties above didn't disappoint, in fact they were the best of the best out of the last 12 resorts we've stayed at. Now onto the Azul Fives. This is Family based property, if you like Children or have Children traveling with you, it'll be great. For us, it was a bit loud while dining and we had wished the Fives had a place to dine quietly. Front desk was welcoming and smooth on check-in and check out. The property is clean, well laid out with pools and paths. We found the nicest pool, the infinity pool was near the beach but sadly it was too loud to enjoy so we spent most of our time at the pool near our room which was awesome. The Beach is narrow with rows upon rows of reclining beach chairs or beds, stacked anywhere from 5 to 10 deep. We didn't have any trouble getting a chair, as long as we went before 9am. All the Beds are for Prestige Members only "time share members" more on that in bit. Our room was in block 11 which is right next to the main entrance. We upgraded our room when we booked, it was older but had a suite with a kitchenette with coffee maker, living room, separate bedroom with sliding doors, jacuzzi, big shower with an awesome rain shower head and 2 bathrooms. It overlooked the pool we spent most of our time at and had a very large deck. Upon check in I asked about upgrades which I like to do and was referred to our concierge, more on that in a bit. Now for our culinary experience, the "Gourmet Inclusive". Sadly the Azul Fives has a lot of bugs to work out, and for a property that has been in the chain for as long as it has, I was very disappointed. I may be wrong on the number of restaurants you have to make reservations for but I believe it was 3. They had to be made within 2 days of dining. Only a few restaurants would qualify as "Gourmet Inclusive". They were 1). Poolside Grill, excellent food, omg, fish tacos to die for. 2). La Brasserie, well laid out, good choices on the buffet. Open for breakfast/brunch and should be your only choice. 3). Arezzo Italian Restaurant, great menu and service but sadly the Arezzo is a big room with a very high ceiling and open concept and therefore the room is very loud with babies and children, kind of ruined it for us. 4) Koh Thai, very good food, nice room, loud but didn't seem to bother us at all based upon where they sat us. (couples get a table under the Sushi Rest), its cozy. If you like spicy, this is your spot. I would recommend they offer a selection of mild to hot dishes or a choice on adjusting the heat to the dish. My wife found it too spicy and we eat a lot of Thai Food. Alright, Im going to be harsh here. The Azul Five needs to completely overhaul or close Flavours Restaurant! A three star buffet does not belong in a Karisma Resort. The food was not good, most of it was warm or cold at best and the selection was poor. On a good note, the service was ok. The new Sushi Restaurant, Oka Sushi was a total let down. We had to wait approximately 20 minutes for someone to take our order and another 15 to get it. When served, we had received "Dry" rolls, which must have been sitting pre-made for several hours, even the wasabi had totally dried out to a point it was flaking into a powder on our plate. I had some type of rice bowl that was flavourless and my wife and I shared a Tempura dish, which seemed to be cooked in a fish batter and at a lower temperature so the oil hung in the batter like oil in a rag. It was so bad, we had to leave our meal and go to the only other place we could get into without a reservation... wait for it ...... Flavours! *sigh. In each of our dinning experiences, the rooms were not full, maybe on the high side 60% full. So one cannot just say the kitchen was overwhelmed by how busy it was. There seemed to be no other excuse but poor attention to detail in the kitchen. Please understand, we are not expecting these places to be Michelin Star. We are however, expecting higher than normal cuisine as advertised and provided by sister properties. And now for my final pet peeve... Time Share Sharks! How annoying, if you want to upgrade, you can, but it will be $1200.00 ... here comes the twist, unless you buy into our prestige program, then it will be this for the week. And it didn't end there, as we relaxed at the pool, Oh Hola Mr. Customer so happy to see you, how are things on the resort? You know we can make it better for you! I have no trouble with being asked if I am interested in ownership. If I decide I am not, please leave me alone.... its my Holidays! All in all, the Azul Fives would land in at about a 4 star or just under. For us, we will go back to the El Dorado Royal or other Hotel Chains in the area. Adios and Good Traveling!More

Great hotel and amazing staff

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday at the Azul Fives. Firstly I just want to say that the staff are amazing, from pool butlers, bar staff, cleaners and waiters. I can name them all but I want to thank the team from the Gin bar for the Pussy Cats and the 1910 cantena, azucena, renne, paola and wilder, thanks for the capitan and coke. Its easier to do pro's and con's rather than a mass e mail Pro's 1. Accommodation amazing we had a suite in block 15 2. La Brasserie for breakfast was outstanding both in food and service 3. Gin bar very nice with great branded drinks with good service 4. The pool bar and grill near block 16 is fantastic and food is amazing 5. Staff in ALL areas are polite and very helpful 6. 1910 bar very good and staff great Con's 1. A wedding a day sometimes 2 per day do impact the resort in the bars and restaurants and also around the pool 2. In my opinion its not 5 star 3. No adult only areas 4. Very hard to have an intermediate romantic meal in any restaurant 5. Food good but all restaurants are canteen style dining and very noisy due to very large and very drunk wedding parties 6. Lots and lots of kids, we arranged our dining around the amount of prams (strollers) outside the restaurants 7. Large groups,50 plus having a very loud and drunk pre and post wedding celebration Overall a nice hotel and I would recommend it to any family or group holiday but if your looking for couples and romance its difficult to find a spot thanks to everyone at azul fives a great holidayMore
